Gurugram to get two new flyovers to ease traffic woes

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is scheduled to build two flyovers to reduce traffic congestion in new Gurugram, police said.

Detailed Notice Inviting Tenders (DNIT) is being prepared for the proposed flyovers at Sectors 45/46-51/52 and Sectors 85/86-89/90 junction. The length of both the flyovers will be between 700 to 800 metres.

After this, tenders will be issued for construction. The estimated cost of these projects would be around 111 crore.

Keeping in mind the Master Plan 2031, GMDA is constructing underpasses and flyovers in the city. Under this, flyovers and underpasses have been constructed at Atul Kataria Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, HUDA City Center, and Basai Chowk.

After assuming the post of Transport Minister in the Naib Saini government of Haryana, Anil Vij, popularly known as Gabbar, is seen in constant motion. After becoming a minister, he inspected the water, sanitation arrangements etc. at the Ambala bus stand and ordered the officials present on the spot to improve all the arrangements.

Transport Minister Anil Vij said the government will add 650 more new buses to the transport fleet keeping in mind the amenities of passengers. These will include 150 AC buses and 500 non-AC buses. The new buses will conform to environmental standards, so as to prevent environmental pollution.

Anil Vij said that continuous efforts are being made to strengthen the transport system through public transport. The new buses in the Roadways fleet will be based on the BS-6 model, which will be operated for several states including New Delhi. Passengers will get facilities like mobile charging facility, AC, comfortable seats in these buses.

A madrasa cook was arrested by Haryana Police on charges of sodomising and threatening to kill a 13-year-old minor student in Raipur Rani in Panchkula district, police said.

According to the police, “the alleged incident took place on November 4 and after the crime the accused attempted to beat the minor to death with stones.”

On the complaint of the victim’s father, the police registered a case against the accused and arrested him.

As per the case registered at the Raipur Rani police station, the boy, a resident of Yamunanagar, studies in a madrasa in a village that falls in the Raipur Rani police station area.

His father was called on the night of November 4 at around 7.30 P.M. by the madrasa caretakers and told that his son was injured in an accident.

The Gurugram Traffic Police have issued 753 challans worth Rs 75.30 lakh for ‘modified silencer’, mostly by Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles and pressure horns from January 1 this year till October 31, officials said on Thursday.

‘Silencer Blast’, technically an offence called ‘Silencer making noise’ under Sections 120 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules and 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, is usually performed by switching the engine off and suddenly on again when the motorcycle is at a high speed.

A sound like that of a firecracker is produced. It is usually done in very heavy-engine motorcycles like the Bullet.

An intensive demolition drive was conducted by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) along with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) in Rajiv Chowk and the surrounding areas on Wednesday.

The action was taken in response to the many complaints received from the citizens of Gurugram who raised the issues pertaining to illegal hutments (jhuggies) and encroachment in the area.

It was noticed that due to major encroachment near Rajiv Chowk, the traffic situation had also become worse.

Additionally, due to illegal inhabitation at the chowk, the entire intersection carried a shabby look as no hygiene and decorum was maintained by the jhuggi dwellers.

Moving forward in capacity building and crime control, Haryana Police have made significant strides by expanding its dog squad under the guidance of Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur.

The squad's strength has been increased from 36 to 63 trained dogs, each equipped with advanced training to aid in solving crimes and catching criminals.

From January to October 2024, the Haryana Police dog squad contributed to the resolution of 24 cases, leading to the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics, an official statement said. These include 24.45 kg marijuana, 17.18 grams heroin, 42.45 grams smack, 10.572 kg poppy husk, and 62 grams charas.

DGP Kapur explained that the Haryana Police utilise three types of dogs, based on their specific skills: First is the tracker dogs that assist investigating officers in cases like thefts and murders. They are mainly labrador breeds and are managed by the state crime branch.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini while chairing a high-powered purchase committee meeting approved purchases and contracts worth Rs 249.77 crores of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Tuesday.

Eleven infrastructure development projects of the Authority were approved for allotment to the qualifying agency. Due to robust negotiations with various bidders pitching for these projects, the government was able to further save Rs 7.96 crores.

The projects approved have been designed to further uplift the road infrastructure, enhance connectivity, improve public transport services, facilitate safe pedestrian movement and also support equitable distribution of water supply in the city.

Haryana Heritage and Tourism Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma said on Tuesday that Mahabharata-linked historical pilgrimage sites in Kurukshetra and surrounding districts would be developed as key tourism destinations.

In this regard, officials from the Union Ministry of Tourism and the state Tourism Department were working together in a coordinated manner.

Minister Sharma informed this after attending the Second Mahabharata Circuit Conference, held in Karnal.

To promote tourism, the Union Ministry of Tourism (Northern Region) organised the conference to discuss the development of historical and ancient pilgrimage sites related to the Mahabharata in the mythological and religious region of Kurukshetra and its neighbouring districts.

According to the notification issued by the Chief Secretary’s Office, Energy Minister Anil Vij has been appointed as Chairman of District Public Relations and Grievances Committees of Kaithal and Sirsa, while Development and Panchayat Minister Krishan Lal Panwar will handle Hisar and Rohtak, Industry and Commerce Minister Rao Singh will look at Nuh and Faridabad and Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda will oversee Bhiwani and Jind districts.

Refrain from burning crop residue, Haryana govt urges farmers

The Haryana government on Saturday appealed to the farmers of the state to refrain from burning crop residue after harvesting paddy as burning crop residue not only leads to air pollution but also depletes soil nutrients.

Instead of burning, farmers should mix the residue into the soil using machinery. Incorporating paddy residue into the soil will enhance soil fertility and will contribute to a cleaner environment as well.

Sharing information in this regard, an official spokesperson for the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Department said that the government has started the Haryana Parali Protsahan Yojana -- 2024-25 to promote crop residue management.
