Odisha: 3 minors held for strangulating 15-year-old student to death

Three minors were detained by police for allegedly strangulating a fellow student to death in the hostel of a private residential college in Keonjhar district of Odisha, an official said on Wednesday.

As per reports, the 15-year-old victim, identified as Jaladhara Mahanta, was a resident of Tangarapada village in Champua block of the Keonjhar district.

After passing the Class 10 board examinations, Jaladhara joined the summer coaching course offered by a private residential college in Dhangarpada area under Town Police limits of Keonjhar district around 15 days ago.

Jaladhara was staying in the hostel of the private residential college.

In a disturbing incident at Dabra in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district, two youth attempted sexual assault on a three-year old minor girl who used to live in a rented house of one of the accused, an official said on Wednesday.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Dabra City Police Station.

The accused, identified as Akash Gupta and his friend, Luv, visited the victim's family who resides in the house of Akash Gupta on rent.

“On Tuesday afternoon, while the girl's mother was busy cooking, the two men, Akash and Luv, took the child under the pretext of buying her toffees from a nearby shop. Manipur Police recover 75 stolen vehicles in 5 days

Amid the ethnic violence in Manipur, theft of cars and two-wheelers is one of the major problems and 75 stolen four-wheelers and seven two-wheelers were recovered in five days from different places in the state, officials said on Tuesday.

A police official said that Manipur Police launched a special drive for the recovery of stolen/snatched vehicles and two-wheelers from anti-social elements and attackers, and recovered 75 vehicles and seven two-wheelers in between April 16 and 20 from different places, mostly in valley districts.

The official said that police have been carrying out a special drive against illegal use of tinted films in vehicles.

Since January 1, tinted films have been removed from 3,720 vehicles in different districts.

Four Indian nationals were repatriated via Yangon after India coordinated with Myanmar authorities to facilitate their exit permits from the Myawaddy compound, the Embassy of India in Yangon informed on Friday.

The four Indian nationals were trapped in cyber-scam networks in the Myawaddy region of the Myanmar-Thailand border and were recently released and brought from Hpa-An to Yangon by the Myanmar authorities.

“We facilitated exit permit by Myanmar authorities for these four Indian nationals from Myawaddy compounds and repatriation through Yangon yesterday. We strongly advise against such job offers and entry/exit without border immigration in Myanmar/Thailand, which can restrict future entry,” the Embassy of India in Yangon stated on Friday.

Last week, as many as 32 Indian nationals – all victims of Myawaddy scam compounds – were repatriated through Mae Sot in the Myanmar-Thailand border region.

In a remarkable operation, the Delhi Police traced and rescued an abducted newborn baby within hours of the incident, an official said on Wednesday. The one-day old baby was stolen from the city’s Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday.

The infant was united with the family and a woman accused of committing the crime was apprehended. The baby was abducted in broad daylight, leaving the parents and hospital administration panicked.

However, a quick operation by Safdarjung Enclave police station helped crack the case within hours of the incident. A 27-year-old woman accused, identified as Pooja, a resident of Malviya Nagar, was arrested.

A dhaba owner was shot dead by three bike-borne assailants in Gurugram's Pataudi area over old enmity, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred late Tuesday night at 'Jhopdi Dhaba'.

The assailants asked for a soft drink and then opened fire on the dhaba owner, identified as Deepender alias Monu (37) of Jatauli, and his worker, Mahender (50), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, the police said.

On hearing the bullet sounds, dhaba staff and other people rushed to the spot, but by then, the criminals had fled.

Two persons have been arrested so far in connection with the murder of Hargobindo Das and his son Chandan Das, at Samserganj in Murshidabad district of West Bengal last week.

The murder of the father and son took place when the entire district was on the boil after protests against the newly-promulgated Waqf (Amendment) Act, turned violent.

Confirming the arrests of two persons in this connection, the Additional Director General of Police (South Bengal), Supratim Sarkar, said that one of the two suspects had been arrested from Birbhum district, while the other was held from Suti area in Murshidabad only.

However, Sarkar did not disclose the identities of the two arrested suspects.

The attack took place around 10 a.m. within the school premises. According to police, the two students had been frequently quarreling since the initial disagreement, and the tensions escalated dramatically on Tuesday.

The accused student brought a machete to school and attacked his classmate, inflicting serious injuries to the head, shoulders, and hands.

In a courageous attempt to protect the victim, the class teacher, identified as Revathi (44), also sustained injuries on her hands.

Fake passport case: ED raids eight places in Bengal

Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths on Tuesday conducted raids at eight places in West Bengal in connection with the money laundering in the fake passports case.

The raids and search operations were conducted in Beck Bagan in South Kolkata, Birati in North 24 Parganas district, and Gede in Nadia district of West Bengal.

Sources said that the raids and search operations were conducted in areas where the criminals used to arrange fake Indian passports for Bangladeshi infiltrators against hefty payments.

Last month, Kolkata Police filed a charge sheet in the case at a lower court in Kolkata, where it was mentioned that of the 130 individuals mentioned in the document, 120 are Bangladeshi residents and the remaining are Indian nationals.
