Five shot in attack at Swedish education centre

At least five people have been injured in a shooting at an education campus in Orebro, central Sweden, Swedish Radio reported on Tuesday.

The victims' condition remains unknown, but the county council said four people have been admitted to hospital. Meanwhile, the Swedish newspaper Expressen has reported that the shooter killed himself or herself.

There are also police officers among the injured, Expressen reported. However, police have dismissed these reports as false, news agency quoted Swedish Radio as saying.

Risberska Skolan is an education centre that mainly serves adults over the age of 20 but also offers primary and secondary school courses and Swedish language classes for immigrants. It is located about 200 km west of Stockholm.

The alarm was raised about the shooting at 1.30 pm local time (12.30 GMT). Several other schools in the city have ordered lockdowns and students remain inside,reported.

Two Israeli soldiers were killed in a shooting attack at a checkpoint in the northern occupied West Bank on Tuesday, the Israeli military said.

In a statement, the military identified one of the slain soldiers as Ofer Yung, a 39-year-old reservist from Tel Aviv who was a squad commander in the 8211th Battalion, an infantry unit operating mainly in the northern West Bank.

The military said another soldier was killed but withheld his identity, saying his name had not yet been cleared for publication.

The military revised an earlier toll, saying two more reservists were seriously wounded and six others sustained minor injuries.

A man has been hospitalised in a critical condition after being shot in an apparent targeted attack in northern Australia.

Police in the Northern Territory (NT) said on Tuesday that officers responded to reports of a shooting in the northern Darwin suburb of Coconut Grove just after 7 p.m. local time on Monday.

Ambulance crews attended the scene and treated a 23-year-old man who had been shot in the leg. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition, awaiting surgery on Tuesday morning, news agency reported.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service told News Corp Australia newspapers that the man was shot with a shotgun and had suffered pellet injuries to both legs.

NT Police officers arrested two men, aged 19 and 22, and a 22-year-old woman over the incident at about 4 a.m. local time on Tuesday in the town of Katherine, 270 kilometres southeast of Darwin.

At least 45 civilians were killed and 82 others injured in a shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Saturday on a crowded market in Omdurman, north of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, a volunteer group and a medical source said.

"The RSF militia committed a new massacre today (Saturday) with a deliberate bombing of the Sabreen Market in the Karari locality," the Al-Thawra Resistance Committee, a volunteer group, said in a statement.

"So far, 45 civilians have been killed and 82 others injured," the statement added, without providing further details.

Meanwhile, a medical source at Al-Nao Hospital in Omdurman said, "The hospital has received over 24 bodies, along with dozens of injured individuals."

At least 18 soldiers of Pakistan's Frontier Corps (FC) have died during an operation in Mangocher, a city located in the Kalat district of Balochistan province, the country's military authorities confirmed on Saturday.

"On the night of January 31/February 1, terrorists attempted to establish roadblocks in Manocher, Kalat District of Balochistan. Security forces and law enforcement agencies were immediately mobilised, who successfully thwarted the evil design and killed 12 of them, ensuring security and protection of local populace," read a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military.

However, the statement added, 18 soldiers were also killed during the operation.

Uganda condemns attack on its embassy in Congo by rioters

Uganda on Wednesday strongly condemned an attack on the country's embassy in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), by rioters amid mass demonstrations.

John Mulimba, Uganda's Minister of State for foreign affairs in charge of regional cooperation, told the parliament that rioters had looted and burned embassy property, forcing the staff into hiding.

"The incident is a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961) and we condemn it in the strongest terms," Mulimba told lawmakers during a plenary.
