Three Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrike on refugee camp in Gaza

Three Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, while Israeli forces unexpectedly advanced in the east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Palestinian security sources told news agency that Israeli warplanes targeted a house on Tuesday west of the Nuseirat camp with a missile. They added that the airstrike was accompanied by intense artillery shelling, which also hit a school housing displaced persons.

Medical sources said the Israeli bombardment killed three Palestinians and injured several others, all of whom were taken to hospital.

In addition, local sources reported that the Israeli troops injured several Palestinians at the Netzarim junction in central Gaza.

Israel has vowed to retaliate after Iran launched several waves of missile attacks at Israel on Tuesday night.

Hours after the Iranian strike, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a Security Cabinet meeting said: "Iran made a big mistake tonight, and it will pay for it."

Earlier, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari said: "Iran's attack is a severe and dangerous escalation. There will be consequences... We will respond wherever, whenever and however we choose, in accordance with the directive of the government of Israel."

Israel's rescue services reported that two people in Tel Aviv were lightly injured by shrapnel, noting that a building in the northern part of the city was damaged. There have been no immediate reports of fatalities in Israel yet.

Fifteen people have been killed in a flash flood in the southeastern Iranian province of Kerman, the official news agencyreported on Tuesday.

The flood occurred on Monday afternoon as heavy rainfalls caused Halil River in Jiroft County to overflow its banks, the report quoted Jiroft Governor Ahmad Bolandnazar as saying.

The governor added that 16 teams of the provincial Red Crescent Society as well as voluntary forces and local people had been searching for the 15 people missing in the flood since Monday evening, and all the bodies were found by Tuesday.

According to Bolandnazar, all the victims, except one, were Afghan nationals who were swimming in the river when the flood took place,news agency reported.

Israel's military on Tuesday urged civilians in Lebanon to evacuate about 30 villages and towns, warning of imminent Israeli attacks in the area, after launching a ground operation into southern Lebanon overnight.

"You must evacuate your homes immediately," Avichay Adraee, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), wrote in a post in Arabic on the social media platform X.

The list included mostly villages and towns near the border with Israel, including Maroun al-Ras, Deir Qanoun, Bint Jbeil, and Aitaroun. However, it also included villages, such as Ibl al-Saqi, located some 60 km from the border, indicating the scope of the ground attack planned by Israel.

Philippine authorities reported on Tuesday that at least two people died and over 77,000 were affected in the wake of Super Typhoon Krathon that barreled across the Philippines over the weekend and early this week.

Provincial authorities said one died from electrocution in Cagayan province and one in Ilocos Sur province.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Krathon affected at least 77,249 people in three regions in the Philippines,news agency reported.

Krathon, the 10th typhoon hitting the Southeast Asian country this year, intensified into a super typhoon on Tuesday morning.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Tuesday called on French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, reiterating India's commitment to implement the Horizon 2047 roadmap between the two long-standing strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific.

The roadmap sets the course for the bilateral relationship up to 2047, which will celebrate the centenary of India's independence, the centenary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries and 50 years of the strategic partnership.

WHO warns over malaria surge in Ethiopia

the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning over an "extremely concerning malaria surge" in Ethiopia.

In an Ethiopia Health Cluster Bulletin report released Monday evening, the United Nations agency said the East African country reported over 5.9 million malaria cases, including 1,023 deaths, between the start of this year and September 22.

This is an "extremely concerning malaria surge" as compared to 4.5 million cases reported between January 1 and December 31 last year, according to the report.

Most cases were recorded in Oromia, Amhara, Southwest Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, and Benishangul-Gumuz, with 50 per cent of the total cases identified in Oromia, Ethiopia's largest region,news agency reported.

The WHO found that since 2018, the number of malaria cases reported yearly has been continuously increasing in Ethiopia.

Thailand's manufacturing sector maintained its upturn in September but expanded at a slower rate due to lower increases in output and new orders, a survey showed on Tuesday.

The Southeast Asian country's manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) was recorded at 50.4 last month, easing from 52.0 in August, signalling an overall improvement in manufacturing sector performance and marking the slowest growth in four months, according to S&P Global.

A PMI reading above 50 indicates expansion in the manufacturing sector, while a reading below 50 reflects contraction,news agency reported.

Afghan power company, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, has inked three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with domestic companies to produce 240 megawatts of electricity, the company said in a statement.

The MoUs were signed at a ceremony in the capital Kabul, attended by acting Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, government officials, and representatives of private companies, the statement said,news agency reported.

Based on the signed MoUs, two companies will produce 100 megawatts of solar energy electricity each and one will produce 40 megawatts of electricity from coal in the capital, it said.

Afghanistan has been facing a power shortage. It imports most of its electricity from neighbouring countries including Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.

Malaysia plans to create national cloud policy, AI regulatory framework

Malaysia plans to create a national cloud policy and artificial intelligence (AI) regulatory framework, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Tuesday.

The national cloud policy will focus on four core areas, namely boosting public service innovation and efficiency, promoting economic competitiveness and growth, strengthening user trust and data security and empowering citizens through digital inclusivity, he said at a ground-breaking ceremony for Google's new $2 billion data centre and cloud region in the country.

"We aim to position Malaysia as a hub for generative AI and investments from tech partners will be critical in building a robust and secure digital infrastructure," Anwar said.

In line with efforts to position Malaysia as a competitive player in the global AI landscape, he said the government is establishing the National AI Office to coordinate all initiatives related to AI technology.

Anwar said the government aims to achieve several key outcomes in the next 12 months including to complete its AI Technology Action Plan (2026 to 2030) and the establishment of a regulatory framework to increase adoption of ethical and sustainable AI technology.
