Chandigarh, 25 May : Haryana recorded 31 percent voting till 1 pm on Saturday as voting got underway for 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Despite the scorching heat in the first four hours, 22.09 percent voting took place. The number of women was more than men at most of the polling stations.
"There is no report of any delay in starting the election process," an election official said.
Notable candidates for the Lok Sabha elections include Union ministers Rao Inderjit Singh and Krishna Pal Gurjar, former chief minister Manohar Lal and veteran Congress leaders Deepender Singh Hooda and Kumari Shailaja.
While most seats are seeing a direct contest between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, some constituencies like Hisar are seeing a multi-cornered fight.
Congress has fielded actor Raj Babbar against BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh from Gurugram.
Apart from the Lok Sabha elections, there is also a by-election for the Karnal Assembly seat, the seat vacated by Khattar, where Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the outgoing Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra, is among the nine candidates in the fray. Saini had replaced Khattar as chief minister in March.
