Chandigarh, September 7
The work of making Chandigarh railway station world class is going on in full swing. The Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) has sought permission to block the platform. Accordingly, platform number-5 and 6 will be closed again from September 15 as an overbridge is to be constructed on the Kalka side. After the construction of the overbridge, there are preparations to build a 12 meter overbridge towards Ambala.
Two 12 meter wide foot overbridges (FOBs) will be constructed on either side of the railway station. One at Kalka and the other at the Ambala station end. From the overbridge heading towards Kalka, passengers will directly reach the Chandigarh-Panchkula parking area. Along with this, passengers will enter the building from the overbridge towards Ambala. Pillars for overbridges have been installed by the authority on all platforms. Platform-5 and 6 will be blocked before laying gutters. After this platform-3, 4 and then platform-1 and 2 will be blocked. Officials say the platform will remain closed on various dates, for which permission has been sought from the Railway Board.
