Chandigarh, 12 September

Police in Chandigarh have arrested one person in connection with a suspected grenade blast at the house of a retired police officer in the city's upscale Sector 10 area. The police have also announced a reward of Rs 2 lakhs for two other suspects in the case.

The incident took place at around 5.30 pm on Wednesday and due to the impact of the blast, windows and flower pots were damaged, the police said in a statement.

Sources told India Today TV that three people arrived at the scene in an autorickshaw shortly before the explosion. The blast was loud enough to be heard even from far away.

According to the sources, the attackers had conducted surveillance of the house just two days before the grenade attack.

A CCTV camera captured the moment when the explosion occurred. In the footage, an autorickshaw is seen speeding away, narrowly dodging a car from the opposite direction before making a swift turn.

Soon after receiving the news, the Chandigarh Police, along with the forensic experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), had reached the scene and started to collect evidence and ascertain the nature of the explosive.

From the CCTV cameras nearby the explosion site, the photos of the suspected attackers have been captured.

The police are suspecting the involvement of a group operating from outside the country.
