Chandigarh / 29th, January.
The General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister, and Member of Parliament from Sirsa Kumari Selja said that the BJP government in Haryana has completely failed to curb corrupt bureaucracy. The funds coming for development work are being consumed by corruption, and to fulfill promises made to the public, the government is increasingly borrowing money. The state, already drowning in debt, is getting deeper into this debt trap, and the government is imposing more financial burdens on the public to save its own skin. The government must arrange funds before making any new announcements.
In a statement released to the media, Kumari Selja said that the BJP government is sinking further into debt. The situation is such that to pay off existing debts, the government has to borrow more money. For the sake of votes, the government doesn't hesitate to make promises, but when it comes to fulfilling them, it fails due to lack of funds. Now, to implement new guarantees and free schemes, the government needs to rethink. If the government does not borrow more money to fulfill its commitments, it will place an additional economic burden on the public. If the government is only taking money from the public’s pockets to fulfill promises, then why does BJP mislead the public with false announcements? Free announcements by the government are impacting development. The main reason for the increasing debt is also the free schemes.
Kumari Selja said that to fulfill election promises, the state is borrowing several times more than its GDP. Haryana, already deep in debt, is borrowing even more. Punjab ranks first in terms of debt. Kumari Selja has said that Haryana will borrow ₹23,500 crore in the next three months, while it had already borrowed ₹18,700 crore in November. In 2023-24, ₹28,364 crore and in 2022-23, ₹28,638 crore were borrowed. Many states, including Haryana, are borrowing more than their GDP.
Kumari Selja said that the government needs to implement concrete plans for public welfare and development. It is not acceptable to take money from the public's pocket for their own welfare under any circumstances. But today, the government is robbing the public’s pockets to fulfill promises made to them. Kumari Selja said that the public has become more aware and will no longer fall for false announcements. The public knows that BJP is only a party of rhetoric, and making false promises is its nature.
