Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Local Government, UT, Chandigarh visited dumping ground and legacy mining site at Dadumajra to take stock of progress work of waste management.
He was accompanied by MC Commissioner, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora and other senior officers of MC Chandigarh.
The SLG assessed the current status of the waste management and bio mining project. The visit aimed to review ongoing waste disposal processes and explore more technologies to enhance the capacity of the site.
During the visit, the MC Commissioner comprehensively briefed the SLG on the present condition of the dump site. The Commissioner elaborated on the segregation process of wet and dry waste, explaining how different types of waste are handled to minimize the hazardous impact to preserve environment. He apprised the SLG that special attention was given to horticulture waste management.
The Commissioner also highlighted the ongoing efforts to ensure daily waste processing at the site. A key focus of the discussion was the initiative to produce bio-soil from organic waste, which can be utilized for agricultural and landscaping purposes.
The Secretary Local Government directed the concerned engineers and the agency engaged in bio-remediation of legacy waste to clear the legacy waste, which is already under progress by 31st March, 2025 and remaining legacy waste to be cleared by end of May, 2025.
He further directed that inert on processing of dry waste shall be minimized and optimum usage of dry waste processing plant be ensured at the earliest. He directed to plant specific species of trees towards residential area of Dadumajra at the earliest before coming monsoon to suppress the foul smell and purify the environment.
