One-Day Seminar on Organic Farming for Biodiversity and Sustainability

The Department of Agriculture of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, successfully organized a One-Day Seminar on Organic Farming for Biodiversity and Sustainability. The seminar brought together renowned experts, scientists, and progressive farmers to discuss the significance of organic farming in sustainable agriculture.
The event began with a formal welcome by Dr. Ramesh Arora (Professor, Agriculture), setting the stage for insightful discussions. This was followed by a keynote address from Umendra Dutt (Executive Director, Kheti Virasat Mission, Punjab) on “Organic Farming for Environmental Quality and Sustainability.”The gathering was also addressed by Prof. Prit Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the University and Prof. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs of the University, who emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and the role of organic farming in ensuring environmental conservation and food security.The technical session featured insightful discussions by Dr. R.K. Nanwal (Former Chief Scientist, Dept. of Agronomy, CCS HAU, Hisar) on “Organic Farming: Challenges & Opportunities” and Ms. Rupsi Garg (Director, Trinjan, KVM, Punjab) on “Trinjan: A Value Chain of Organic Cotton from Farm to Fabric.”
An exhibition on organic farming was organized, allowing participants to explore innovations and sustainable agricultural techniques. The interaction session included a talk by Surinder Pal Dhingawali (Progressive Farmer, Fazilka), who shared his experiences and perspectives on organic farming. Farmers and experts engaged in an interactive discussion, exchanging valuable knowledge on organic practices.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Jaspreet Kaur Dhillon, expressing gratitude to all speakers, participants, and organizers. She said that the event provided a vital platform to promote sustainable agricultural practices, encourage organic farming, and strengthen collaborations among stakeholders to ensure an environmentally friendly and healthier future.
