Anil Kapoor starts filming for action-drama movie ‘Subedaar’

The upcoming Anil Kapoor-starrer movie ‘Subedaar’ has gone into production with filming happening at a brisk pace. The film is an action-drama, and stars Anil Kapoor in the titular role. It is helmed by Suresh Triveni, who is known for ‘Jalsa’ and ‘Tumhari Sulu’.

The makers on Wednesday announced the start of filming, and also shared Anil’s look from the film. The film also stars Radhikka Madan in a key role of Anil’s daughter, Shyama, along with an exciting ensemble cast essaying unique characters, which also includes an unhinged antagonist.

The movie is set in the Indian heartland, and follows Subedaar Arjun Maurya as he grapples with the challenges of leading a civilian life, navigates a strained relationship with his daughter and confronts societal dysfunction. Once a soldier who fought for the nation, Subedaar must now battle enemies within, to protect his home and family.

Over 14 million people displaced by conflict in Sudan

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that more than 14 million people had fled their homes since the beginning of the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

"The (internal) displacement number has hit 11 million. That's up 200,000 just since September," IOM Director-General Amy Pope said in a statement on Tuesday, news agency reported.

"Another 3.1 million people have traveled across borders to flee the fighting. In total, nearly 30 per cent of Sudan's population has been displaced," she added.

Pope described the situation in Sudan as "catastrophic," noting "the suffering is growing by the day" and that "almost 25 million people are now requiring assistance."

The Indian stock market opened in red for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as selling was seen in PSU bank and pharma sectors in early trade.

Sensex was trading at 80,057.15 after falling 311.88 points or 0.39 per cent. At the same time. Nifty was trading at 24,372.75 after falling 94.10 points or 0.38 per cent.

The market trend remained positive. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), 1,666 stocks were trading in green, while 586 stocks were trading in red.

The Nifty Bank was at 52,890.30 after slipping 430.40 points or 0.82 per cent. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was trading at 56,460.75 after climbing 209.45 points or 0.37 per cent. The Nifty Small cap 100 index was at 18,355.35 after climbing 156.40 points or 0.86 per cent.

Maruti, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, TCS and ITC were the top gainers in the Sensex pack. At the same time, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, Titan, HCL Tech, PowerGrid and Asian Paints were the top losers.

South Korea's space agency, NASA to conduct studies on Artemis programme

South Korea's national space agency on Wednesday said it will join hands with the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to conduct studies related to the Moon exploration Artemis programme.

According to its officials, the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) has signed a study agreement on the Artemis programme with NASA, aimed at conducting research projects for sustainable exploration of the Moon and preparations for Mars exploration, news agency reported.

South Korea is the fifth nation to sign such an agreement with NASA, according to the Korean space agency.

Under the agreement, KASA and NASA will collaborate to conduct feasibility studies on lunar landers, space communications, positioning, navigation and timing, tools and applications to support astronauts, and space-based life sciences and medical operations.

India’s smartphone volume grew by 3 per cent (year-on-year) in the third quarter (Q3 2024) this year, as Samsung led the market in terms of value with a 23 per cent share, closely followed by Apple with a 22 per cent share, according to a report on Wednesday.

The value of Indian smartphone market surged by an impressive 12 per cent (on-year) to reach an all-time record for a single quarter, according to the latest research from Counterpoint’s Monthly India Smartphone Tracker. 5G smartphones captured their highest-ever share of 81 per cent in the overall shipments.

“The market is increasingly shifting toward value growth, fuelled by a premiumisation trend, which, in turn, is supported by aggressive EMI offers and trade-ins,” said senior research analyst Prachir Singh.

As gold prices continue to surge amid geo-political tensions, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had 854.73 metric tonnes of gold as of September 30 and out of which, 510.46 metric tonnes were held domestically.

Gold held domestically surged more than 102 tonnes between April and September this year to 510.46 metric tonnes, against 408 metric tonnes at the end of March.

While 324.01 metric tonnes of gold were kept in safe custody with the Bank of England and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), 20.26 metric tonnes were held in the form of gold deposits, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) ‘Half Yearly Report on Management of Foreign Exchange Reserves: April-September 2024.’

New car sales dips to 11-year low in South Korea

New automobile sales during the first nine months of the year fell over 8 per cent from a year earlier amid high borrowing costs and a slowdown in global electric vehicle demand, industry data showed on Wednesday.

According to the data from the Korea Automobile and Mobility Association (KAMA), registrations of new cars during the January-September period totalled 1,209,154 units, down 8.7 per cent from a year ago.

It marked the lowest recording for the nine-month period since the 1,175,010 units tallied in 2013. The number of gasoline vehicles decreased 19.6 per cent on-year to 515,000 units, while diesel registrations plummeted 56.7 per cent to 99,000 units. EV registrations also fell 7.9 per cent to 108,000, reports news agency.

The teaser for the three-row electric SUV presents the overall silhouette and the model's elongated wheelbase. Hyundai said the Ioniq 9 draws inspiration from the sleek exteriors and cozy interiors of boats, reports news agency.

The Ioniq 9 symbolises the largest vehicle class in Hyundai Motor's Ioniq lineup and the company's inaugural venture into the realm of large electric SUV models.

Hyundai plans to fully unveil the design and features of the Ioniq 9 at a global showcase event next month.
