Manipur: Hand grenade found in front of college near Raj Bhavan

A powerful live hand grenade was found at the gates of Ghanapriya Women's College, located less than 100 metres from the Raj Bhavan here on Monday, police said.

A police official said that the recovery of the live hand grenade in front of the prominent women’s college in an important location triggered panic among the people in Imphal West district.

Senior police officials with a huge contingent of police personnel rushed to the spot and with the help of a bomb squad, removed the live hand grenade and averted a major incident.

The women's college is located less than 100 metres from the Governor's house and 300 metres from Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's official residence and Manipur Police headquarters.

Hockey India on Monday announced the restructured 18-member Indian women’s team squad for the eighth Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024. The tournament will be held from November 11 to 20 at the newly-developed Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar.

As defending champions, India enter the competition with high expectations, having clinched the title at last year’s edition in Ranchi. The team will face stiff competition from five other nations, including reigning Olympic silver medalists China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand in the battle for continental supremacy.

The Indian team will be captained by Salima Tete while Navneet Kaur will serve as her deputy.

At least eight passengers lost their lives after a vehicle carrying them from a wooden bridge plunged into a river in Afghanistan's Uruzgan province, provincial authorities said on Monday.

The accident occurred on Monday at 3:00 a.m. (local time) when the wooden bridge broke due to heavy weight on the outskirts of the province's Gayzab district, Agha Wali Qurishi, provincial director of information and culture.

The worn-out condition of the bridge, overloading, and careless driving are the main reasons behind the deadly accident, news agency reported.

Road accidents are common in the mountainous central Asian country, often attributed to poor driving, lack of safety measures for travellers on congested roads, challenging terrains, and old vehicles.

Ambuja Cements, the cement and building material company of the diversified Adani Group, on Monday, reported the highest quarterly revenue of Rs 7,516 crore in Q2 FY25, up 1 per cent (year-on-year).

The company saw volume growth of 9 per cent YoY, at 14.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), the highest volume in the Q2 series in the last five years.

The net worth increased by Rs 450 crore during the quarter and stands at Rs 59,916 crore. The company remains debt-free and continues to maintain Crisil AAA (stable) and Crisil A1+ ratings.

A majority of homebuyers in India expects property prices to rise by 6-15 per cent over the next 12 months, citing capital appreciation and rental yields as key motivators, according to a report on Monday.

Those with annual household incomes between Rs 20 lakh-Rs 30 lakh are showing strongest preference for purchasing homes, signalling rising aspirations within the middle-income segment.

These buyers are mainly considering investments in the Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore range, according to the report by real estate platform Magicbricks.

The Indian Women’s League is back for its second season in its current home-and-away format, campaign will begin on January 10, 2025.

This season, the IWL will be expanded to an eight-team league, with last season’s IWL 2 champions Sreebhumi FC (West Bengal), and runners-up NITA Football Academy (Odisha) joining as new entrants.

The league will commence on January 10 with a double-header, as defending champions Odisha FC take on East Bengal FC at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar at 3 pm IST, followed by the clash between Gokulam Kerala FC and Sreebhumi FC at the Payyanad Stadium, in Manjeri at 4 pm IST.

Despite Ola Electric claiming that it has resolved 99.1 per cent of the 10,644 complaints filed with the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) regarding its poor after-sales service, the Department of Consumer Affairs is critically examining responses filed by the Bhavish Aggarwal-run EV firm, and will correlate each consumer complaint with the company’s claims.

According to sources, the CCPA is closely examining the electric two-wheeler maker’s claims and after examining individual complaints, the regulator will be able to "determine the correctness of the Ola Electric responses."

Moreover, one more EV player may also get CCPA notice regarding complaints filed by the consumers, said reports, citing sources.

Teenager dies in bus-truck collision in MP's Chhatarpur

A teenager was killed while over 20 others suffered injuries after a bus they were travelling in collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district.

The incident occurred early on Monday when the private bus carrying around 30-35 passengers was heading towards Gwalior from Rewa via Chhatarpur.

The bus was hit by a truck on the highway connecting Rewa-Satna and Chhatarpur near Bageshwar Dham trisection, a few km short of Chhatarpur district headquarters.

An eyewitness told police that after getting hit by a truck running at high speed hit the bus, the driver lost control of the bus and it overturned.

"Preliminary inquiry revealed that bus got overturned after it was hit by a truck on the highway connecting Chhatarpur and Satna. Police along with local citizens rescued the passengers and those who were injured were rushed to a nearby hospital," Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Salil Sharma said.
