India’s gold reserves continue to rise, ETF buying surges

India’s gold reserves are increasing at a regular basis and according to experts, bullion is likely to remain supported by safe-haven demand and strong buying among gold exchange-traded fund (ETF) investors.

As per latest data by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), gold reserves increase by $726 million to $63.613 billion, compared to $62.887 billion last week.

Gold is the second largest contributor to India's forex reserve.

India's foreign exchange reserves has scaled a new high $692.296 billion, up by $2.838 billion in the week that ended on September 20. As per global financial firms, the forex reserves are at record all-time high levels and are set to cross $700 billion in FY25 sooner than expected.

According to a latest note by global investment firm Jefferies, RBI's forex reserve is estimated to go up by a massive $53 billion to reach $700 billion in the current fiscal (FY25E).

Hokato Hotozhe Sema was born to a family of farmers in Dimapur on December 24, 1983. His ambition in life had been to become a soldier and he joined the Assam Regiment at the age of 17.

In 2001, he was deployed along the Line of Control (LOC) in J&K. Sema’s dreams of joining the Special Forces were shattered a year later after he lost his left leg below the knee in a landmine blast during a counter-infiltration operation.

A huge fire broke out at the Tata Electronics factory in Hosur in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district on Saturday, leaving at least four workers injured, officials said.

No fatality has been reported so far. The four workers, who were affected by the smoke which spread across the skies above the facility, were admitted to a private hospital in Hosur.

Tata Electronics Private Ltd, in a statement, said: "There has been an unfortunate incident of fire at our plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Our emergency protocols at the plant ensured that all our employees are safe. The cause of the fire is under investigation and we will take necessary actions to safeguard the interest of our employees and other stakeholders."

Mumbai batter Musheer Khan's condition is stable and is out of danger after sustaining injuries on his neck and limbs following a major car accident, Medanta Hospital in Lucknow confirmed.

Musheer's SUV car met with an accident on the Purvanchal Expressway while travelling from Azamgarh to Lucknow on Friday. He was brought to the emergency department of Medanta Hospital with neck pain at 8 pm and is receiving treatment under the supervision of Orthopedics Department director Dr Dharmendra Singh.

"On September 27 at 8 pm, cricketer Mushir Khan, injured in a road accident on Purvachal Expressway, was brought to the emergency department of Medanta Hospital with neck pain. He is being treated under the supervision of Dr Dharmendra Singh, Director of Orthopedics Department. His condition is stable at present and he is out of danger," the hospital said in a statement on Saturday.

Myanmar's navy seizes over 1.4 million stimulant tablets

Myanmar's naval authorities have seized 1.478 million stimulant tablets in western Myanmar's Rakhine state, local media reported on Saturday, citing the police sources.

The narcotics were confiscated in Kyaukphyu township of Rakhine state on Monday after local authorities, including Myanmar navy personnel, intercepted a motorboat, reports.

Four suspects on board the boat were arrested and two more suspects in connection with the case were also apprehended in Seikkyi Kanaungto township of Yangon region on Tuesday, the report said.

The narcotics are approximately valued at over 2.2 billion kyats (about US$1.04 million), the report added.

Investigations showed that the drugs were transported from Shan state to the Yangon region and were then enroute to Rakhine state via waterway.
