Women with PCOS likely to have attention, cognitive issues: Study

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or PCOS, a common endocrine disorder in women, can affect attention and other cognitive abilities, according to a study by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay on Monday.

Women with PCOS often suffer from irregular or absent periods, polycystic ovaries, and increased levels of male hormone (androgen).

While previous research showed an increased level of anxiety and depression among women with PCOS, the new study focussed on attention -- the precursor for all vital cognitive processing such as receiving, understanding, and making sense of the information.

Maitreyi Redkar and Prof Azizuddin Khan from the Psychophysiology Laboratory, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the IIT Bombay assessed two groups of participants -- 101 women with PCOS and 72 healthy women.

Chennai Police foil ATM break-in-attempt, arrest three

In a swift and coordinated response, the Greater Chennai Police thwarted an attempted ATM break-in during the early hours of Monday and arrested three suspects, all migrant workers, at the scene.

According to officials, the incident took place at a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM located on Thiruvalluvar Salai.

The trio allegedly tried to tamper with the ATM’s advanced security system by using a black cardboard sheet to obstruct its artificial intelligence-based surveillance camera.

The technique, police believe, was aimed at disabling or confusing the system to gain access to the cash chest undetected. However, the ATM’s built-in AI surveillance mechanism triggered an automated alert when it detected the suspicious activity.

IPL 2025: PBKS need to work on their death bowling, says Manjrekar

Ahead of a high stakes IPL 2025 clash between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes the Shreyas Iyer-led side has to really work hard on sorting their death bowling issues.

PBKS find themselves in an IPL playoffs after 11 years and a win over MI at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday will make them the first team to secure a top-two finish in the points table. But Iyer & Co. are coming after failing to defend 206 against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.

What will also keep PBKS worried is that leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal hasn’t been available due to a small niggle. “Punjab Kings’ batting looks good — that’s one area that’s fairly organised. Bowling is the worry.”

Low inflation to boost purchasing power, bolster fiscal finances in India: HSBC

Low inflation to boost purchasing power, bolster fiscal finances in India: HSBC

Low inflation for the rest of the year will result in improving real purchasing power of households and lowering input costs for corporates in India, an HSBC Research report said on Monday, adding that a less obvious, but equally important benefit, could be via fiscal finances.

The rest of the year will likely get support from lower inflation of about 2.5 per cent for the next six months.

With public granaries stocked up and monsoon rains likely to be favourable, food inflation is set to remain low. Core inflation as well will likely remain range-bound, led by weaker commodity prices, softer growth, a stronger rupee (against the US dollar), and imported disinflation from China, said the report, while updating its 100 indicators database for the country.

These indicators map various sectors, and gives a thorough and sequential picture of growth.
