Delhi: Dabri roundabout most notorious spot for accidents during water-logging

The Drain Road near Dabri roundabout in west Delhi is the city's most notorious spot that reports the maximum number of about 11 road accidents annually due to waterlogging between July and September, according to Delhi Traffic Police data on Friday.

Apart from this roundabout, there are about 193 accident-prone waterlogging hotspots in the city that recorded nearly 400 incidents last year. Water-logging emerged as a key contributory factor in almost all the incidents recorded at these points during monsoon, said an official.

To reduce waterlogging-related accidents in the current season, the traffic police shared a list of 194 hotspots with civic agencies during pre-monsoon deliberations with a request for corrective infrastructural changes to ensure smooth flow of rainwater at these points, said a senior official.

The Assam Rifles, along with other law-enforcing agencies have seized highly addictive methamphetamine tablets and heroin valued at around Rs 37 crore in Mizoram, officials said on Friday.

A Defence spokesman said that acting on specific intelligence, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and Narcotics Control Bureau was launched on Thursday night at bordering Zokhawthar in eastern Mizoram’s Champhai district.

After a thorough search of the suspected area, the security personnel recovered 642 grams of heroin and 10.44 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued approximately Rs 37 crore. Sensing the presence of the Assam Rifles troops, the drug peddlers managed to escape.

Twin studies report global rise in gastrointestinal cancers among middle-aged adults

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are rising at alarming rates worldwide in adults younger than 50 years, according to two studies.

The first study, published in JAMA, showed that the surging cancer cases go beyond colorectal, and include gastric, oesophageal, and pancreatic.

"Colorectal cancer is the most common early-onset GI cancer worldwide, accounting for more than half of the cases, but it is not the only GI cancer that is rising in younger adults. Unfortunately, pancreatic, gastric, and oesophageal cancers are also increasing in young people," said Dr. Kimmie Ng, from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in the US.

"The rising incidence of early-onset GI cancers is alarming and underscores the need for enhanced prevention strategies and early detection methods," Ng added.

Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Steel on Friday reported a sequential decline of 3.73 per cent in company’s revenue from operations, which stood at Rs 43,147 crore in the April-June quarter (Q1 FY26), compared to Rs 44,819 crore in the previous quarter (Q4 FY25).

Total income also slipped by 3.45 per cent to Rs 43,497 crore from Rs 45,049 crore, according to its stock exchange filing.
