Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, through a collaborative initiative between the Department of Biotechnology and the Centre for Scientific Research and Innovation (CSRI), organized a five-day Quality Enhancement Workshop on Molecular Biology Techniques, aimed at equipping students with hands-on training and in-depth understanding of key experimental approaches in Biotechnology. The workshop witnessed active participation from the students of Departments of Biotechnology, Zoology, Food Processing Technology, and Botany and Environmental Sciences, reflecting a strong interdisciplinary interest in molecular biology. The workshop commenced with a session by Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Head of the Department, who delivered a practical demonstration on PCR amplification, outlining its significance in molecular diagnostics and research. On Day 2 and 3, Dr. Nancy, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, led the sessions on Plasmid DNA isolation and the SDS-PAGE technique, offering comprehensive training on nucleic acid extraction and protein separation. Day 4 featured an insightful session by Dr. Simran Jot Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, who demonstrated Coomassie blue staining along with other vital protein staining techniques, essential for visualizing protein bands post-electrophoresis. The final day of the workshop, coinciding with the observance of World DNA Day 2025, included an engaging hands-on session on agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA fragments, conducted by Dr. Rupinder Kaur, celebrating the legacy and advancements in DNA research. The interactive lectures, combined with practical exposure, provided participants with valuable insights into core molecular biology techniques. The workshop proved to be an enriching experience for all attendees, further enhancing their technical skills and conceptual clarity. In the concluding session, Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh addressed the participants and appreciated the initiative taken by the Department and CSRI in organizing such a quality enhancement workshop. He emphasized the importance of experiential learning and encouraged students to pursue research with dedication. Prof. (Dr.) Tejbir Singh, Chairman, CSRI, delivered the concluding remarks, sharing his insightful thoughts on the role of such workshops in bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application. The Department of Biotechnology extends its sincere gratitude to all the resource persons, organizing team, and participants for their enthusiastic involvement and making the event a grand success.
