Gurugram: Two arrested for murdering woman, dumping body stuffed in suitcase

Two people have been arrested on the charges of killing a 33-year-old woman, stuffing her body into a suitcase and dumping it on the Gurugram-Faridabad road, police said on Thursday.

The accused were arrested on Wednesday.

The crime came to light after a passerby spotted the suitcase.

The police were informed, and an FIR was registered regarding murder at the Sushant Lok police station in Gurugram.

The deceased was identified as Praveen alias Riya (33), a resident of the village Parksarkas, District Tiljala (West Bengal).

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Nagpur unit, under the Mumbai Zonal jurisdiction, successfully apprehended two individuals engaged in illegal trade and possession of leopard skins.

Following the seizure, the confiscated wildlife articles and the detained individuals were handed over to the District Forest Division of Ujjain for further investigation in accordance with the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.

The operation, conducted in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, resulted in the seizure of two leopard skins with heads, along with an ivory (wild boar horn), from the suspects.

Acting on specific Intelligence regarding attempts to sell these prohibited wildlife items, the DRI team intervened at a hotel in Ujjain on the morning of May 4 leading to the suspects’ capture.

Security forces have arrested 12 more militants, including a woman cadre, of different outfits and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur during the past 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said that of the 12 militants apprehended, 11 belong to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) outfit and one to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) group.

The militants, including a woman cadre, were arrested from four districts -- eight from Imphal East, one from Imphal West, two from Thoubal, and one from Kakching.

A large cache of arms and ammunition, including AK series/A1/M4/self-loading rifles, .303 rifles, pistols, camouflage uniforms, mobile phones, various electronic devices, incriminating documents and various other materials were recovered from the militants.

In a series of joint operations, the Army, Assam Rifles and other security forces have recovered 31 weapons, huge quantities of ammunition and explosives and arrested 17 militants from different districts of Manipur, officials said on Monday.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Amit Shukla said the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP and Manipur Police in a joint operation during the past few days have recovered 31 Arms, including sophisticated weapons, 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), several grenades, ammunition and war-like stores.

These arms and ammunition were recovered from four Manipur districts -- Kakching, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur and Kangpokpi -- comprising the valley region and mountainous areas.

The arms and ammunition recovered included, Self Loading Rifle (SLR), two single-barrel guns, one bolt action rifle, improvised launchers (pompi), a pistol, carbine, an INSAS rifle, Pt .22 rifle and improvised mortars (pompi).

A woman employee at an Akshaya Centre in Kerala has been taken into custody for allegedly preparing a fake admit card for the NEET examination held on Sunday.

The employee, identified as Greeshma, was picked up by the Pathanamthitta police on Monday morning from Neyyattinkara, a suburb of the state capital, after a male candidate appearing for the NEET exam in Pathanamthitta was found with a suspicious admit card.

The impersonation came to light when an invigilator at the Pathanamthitta exam centre noticed discrepancies in the male candidate’s admit card.

Although the candidate was allowed to write the exam, the invigilator alerted the examination centre in Thiruvananthapuram for verification.

In a major crackdown, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has busted a gang accused of rigging the NEET UG and other competitive examinations, and arrested three individuals from Gautam Buddha Nagar district's Noida.

The accused have been identified as Vikram Kumar Shah, Dharampal Singh, and Aniket Kumar. The arrests took place in Sector 3, under the Phase-1 police station limits of Gautam Buddha Nagar district.

The accused are now booked under FIR No. 182/2025 at Phase-1 police station in Gautam Buddha Nagar, under sections 318, 319, 336, 337, 338, 340, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Local police have initiated further legal proceedings.

The STF has seized a significant amount of incriminating evidence from the accused, including six calling mobile phones, four personal phones, two encrypted Aadhaar cards, a candidate data sheet, a PAN card, a credit card, a voter ID, a passport, a cheque book, an Apple MacBook, and a Toyota Fortuner.

MP: Suspect who made sexual assault on 4-year-old minor girl arrested

The police have arrested a suspect in the case of the kidnapping and sexual assault of a four-year-old minor girl at Khagamau village, in the Majhgawan Police Station area of Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district.

The accused, identified as Kamlesh Lodhi alias Kariya, aged 22 years, lured the child with toffees while she was alone and took her away under the pretence of attending a wedding dinner organised nearby in the village.

After committing the crime, he abandoned her near a grocery shop and fled. He has been arrested on Friday and sent to jail, the investigation officer said.

The incident took place on the evening of April 26, at around 7.30 p.m., when a wedding procession had arrived in the village.

Male members of the girl's family had already left for the venue, and she insisted on joining them.

In a daring midnight heist, unidentified thieves broke into the Manappuram Gold Loan Bank branch located at Parshuram Chowk in Charkhi Dadri on Thursday night and decamped with nearly 7 kg of gold and Rs 14 lakh in cash, officials said on Friday.

The theft came to light early Friday morning when the bank’s security guard, Shiva, reported for duty and found the shutter lock of the bank broken.

He immediately alerted the branch's senior manager, Prayas Khatri, who then informed the police.

Judicial probe into Delhi teen's death over contrasting claims in police custody

A judicial inquiry has been initiated following the alleged custodial death of a 19-year-old youth, identified as Ravi Sahni alias Ravi Kaliya, a resident of Samalka, New Delhi.

The incident occurred on Tuesday while he was being transported to a police station after his arrest.

According to a statement released by Delhi Police, the incident began at around 3 p.m. when a motorcycle patrol team observed two individuals on a bike acting suspiciously near the Palam area.

When signalled to stop, the duo allegedly attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase.

The suspects were identified as Vikas alias Majnu (28) and Ravi Sahni alias Ravi Kaliya (19), both residents of Samalka. After a search, the police claim to have recovered a country-made pistol and one live cartridge from Vikas.
