Teenager arrested after man fatally stabbed in Sydney

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a man was stabbed to death in Sydney's inner-west on Saturday, local police said.

Australia's New South Wales Police said on Saturday that emergency services were called to a home on Spring Street, Concord, at about 12:30 a.m. local time following reports a man had been stabbed, news agency reported.

A man in his 30s was found outside the property with multiple wounds to his chest and died at the scene. The man has not been identified yet.

Police have established a crime scene and detectives are investigating the incident.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials probing the ration distribution case in West Bengal have some specific clues on the modus operandi of how fake cards were used in the alleged scam by the operators.

Sources said that investigation has revealed that mainly two types of fake ration cards were used in the process. The first were those belonging to deceased persons whose cards were not cancelled by the state food and supplies department because of a lack of intimation from the relatives.

The second type involved those who shifted to a new locality and enrolled in the fair price shop. Sources said that once that person was enrolled in the new locality, his old card in the earlier locality should have been automatically cancelled but did not.

Saddam, the key accused behind the attack on a team of West Bengal Police at Kultali in South 24 Parganas district on July 15, was finally arrested early Thursday morning, officials of the state police have confirmed.

He had been absconding since the attack and was hiding at the warehouse of a pisciculture farm in the area. However, state police sources said that on receiving specific information, a team of cops raided that farm and finally arrested the accused from there.

The cops have also arrested the owner of the pisciculture farm, Mannan Khan, on charges of giving shelter to a person accused of multiple crimes. The arrested duo will be presented before a district court on Thursday and the public prosecutor will seek their police custody, confirmed a police official.

On July 15, when a team of cops reached Kultali to arrest Saddam, accused of selling fake gold, the cops were attacked by the family members and associates of the accused. Even a bullet was shot at the cops, which fortunately missed the target.

A highly technical Android malware campaign by Vietnamese hackers is targeting Indian users through fake traffic e-challan messages on WhatsApp, according to a report on Wednesday.

Researchers from CloudSEK, a cybersecurity firm, identified the malware as part of the Wromba family.

It has infected more than 4,400 devices and led to fraudulent transactions exceeding Rs. 16 lakh by just one scam operator, they said.

A jilted lover and his friend killed three members of a family and injured another in Bihar’s Saran district on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Sudhanshu Kumar, alias Raushan, and Ankit Kumar. The incident occurred in Dhanadih village under Rasoolpur police station in the district.

The incident came to light when the injured mother of the victim managed to raise an alarm and inform the local police about the triple murder.

The police revealed that Sudhanshu Kumar was having an affair with one of the minor daughters of the victim, Tarkeshwar Singh.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials have identified property worth Rs 11 crore belonging to Budhaditya Chattopadhyay, a local youth in Kolkata, who was arrested on July 11 on charges of duping individuals and firms on the pretext of getting tenders passed in the West Bengal Health Department.

Sources said the ED officials have got clues these properties were purchased with the ill-gotten proceeds.

ED officials have also got clues on how the accused minted huge amounts of money by investing in trade of exotic foreign bird species.

Sources said that the ED counsel this week updated a special court of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on the details of the fraud perpetrated by Budhaditya Chattopadhyay.

Police officers from Ohio shot and killed a man, who was wielding knives, near a Republican Party National Convention site in Wisconsin.

According to the police, the man, identified as 43-year-old Samuel Sharpe, was holding a knife in each hand. The situation escalated when Sharpe charged at an unarmed individual, prompting the officers to open fire. Two knives were recovered from the scene.

"Someone's life was in danger," Milwaukee police chief Jeffrey Norman said during a Press conference. "These officers, who were not from this area, took it upon themselves to act and save someone's life."

The incident occurred on Tuesday amid heightened security in Milwaukee, where thousands of officers from various jurisdictions are deployed to ensure the safety of the Republican National Convention, which started on Monday and is set to conclude on Thursday.

Seven more Bangladeshi nationals including two women, along with two Indian touts were arrested in Assam and Tripura on Tuesday for their illegal entry into India, officials said.

Officials in Guwahati said that Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel arrested five Bangladeshi nationals including two women at Guwahati railway station before they boarded a train to travel to Bengaluru.

The detainees are residents of Sylhet in Bangladesh.

In Tripura, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and GRP staff arrested two Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian touts from Sepahijala and West Tripura districts.

The UP police have arrested a man from Meerut for allegedly threatening an SDM posted in Saharanpur district while claiming to be the Personal Assistant (PA) of public representatives, the police said.

The accused, identified as Chandan Singh a.k.a. Sanjay Singh, was arrested from Meerut.

Saharanpur Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagar Jain said, "A First Information Report (FIR) was filed on July 10 by the SDM of Nakur, who reported that a man was continuously calling him, using abusive language, and threatening him."

Following this, the police registered a case at Nakur Police Station.

The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended IAS officer Devi Sharan Upadhyay over graft. He was recently removed from the post of Member, Judicial Revenue Council, Prayagraj, and put on waiting list.

The action against the officer has been taken under the Chief Minister's zero-tolerance policy against corruption and he has been found guilty of issuing wrong orders in the case of lease of land in Aligarh.

Devi Sharan Upadhyay is a 2012 batch IAS officer. He was posted with Judicial Revenue Council in July 2022.
