Myanmar's navy seizes over 1.4 million stimulant tablets

Myanmar's naval authorities have seized 1.478 million stimulant tablets in western Myanmar's Rakhine state, local media reported on Saturday, citing the police sources.

The narcotics were confiscated in Kyaukphyu township of Rakhine state on Monday after local authorities, including Myanmar navy personnel, intercepted a motorboat, reports.

Four suspects on board the boat were arrested and two more suspects in connection with the case were also apprehended in Seikkyi Kanaungto township of Yangon region on Tuesday, the report said.

The narcotics are approximately valued at over 2.2 billion kyats (about US$1.04 million), the report added.

Investigations showed that the drugs were transported from Shan state to the Yangon region and were then enroute to Rakhine state via waterway.

Six terrorist associates were arrested and a large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them in J&K’s Pulwama district, police said on Saturday.

Police said improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and arms/ammunition with incriminating materials were recovered from their possession by police in Awantipora.

“Awantipora police got specific input that a Pakistan-based Kashmiri militant of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit was into the process of identifying youths who could be motivated to join terror ranks and after finding such youth, arms/ammunition/explosives were being delivered to these youths to commit terror acts before their formal joining into terror ranks," the officials added.

In what's believed to be the biggest serial ATM robbery in Kerala, the Tamil Nadu Police shot dead one criminal in Namakkal and took five others into custody on Friday.

The serial ATM robbery that began at 2.10 a.m. in Thrissur ended when the gang of six all from Haryana decamped with Rs 65 lakh from three ATMs of State Bank of India in a radius of 17 km.

While the first ATM was broken open at 2.10 a.m., the second one took place at 3.40 a.m. and the last one close to 4 a.m.

The gang came in a car and after carrying out the ATM robbery took the route towards Tamil Nadu. However, by the time they hit the road, the alarm system in the ATMs sounded the alert and the Kerala Police were on their heels.

The Medan District Court in Indonesia sentenced a drug dealer, identified as FRL, to death for possessing 28 kg of crystal methamphetamine and 14,431 ecstasy pills.

Chief Judge Lenny Megawaty Napitupulu stated that the death sentence was in line with the prosecutor's demands and following the Narcotics Law, news agency reported.

FRL was arrested on January 29 after police received a tip-off about drug transactions in Medan. An undercover officer, posing as a buyer, arranged a meeting with the dealer on Jalan Flamboyan Raya in Medan.

A minor girl was allegedly raped by her tutor in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district and the accused has been arrested on Friday, police said.

Acting on a complaint filed by the victim's parents, District Police officials arrested the accused, a Railways employee, from the government quarter allotted to him.

Preliminary investigations revealed that besides working as a railway staff, the accused used to teach local students on weekends.

As per the complaint, the victim was in a state of shock for quite some time, following which she was taken to a counsellor. After some counselling sessions, the victim revealed about the ordeal.

As per the complaint, the accused had been molesting the victim for quite some time and one evening raped her when no one was his quarter.

A special Pocso court in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday handed down a death sentence to death former hostel warden Yumken Bagra for sexually assaulting 21 minor students at a state-run residential school in Shi-Yomi district between 2019 and 2022.

A senior police official said that the special judge, Pocso cases, of west sessions court, Yupia also sentenced two others -- former headmaster Singtung Yorpen, and Hindi reached Marbom Ngomdir -- to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Prime accused Bagra, 33, sexually assaulted 21 children, including 15 girls and six boys, aged between 6 and 15 years, between 2019 and 2022.

The police official said that Bagra was convicted under various sections of the IPC as well as the POCSO Act, and sentenced to death due to the severity of his crimes.

A day after the suicide of the prime suspect in the sensational Bengaluru Mahalaxmi murder case, the family members of the deceased Mukthiranjan Roy on Thursday alleged that the victim woman Mahalaxmi used to blackmail and extract money from Roy.

The accused had allegedly revealed about committing the crime and the reasons behind such a heinous act to his younger brother before suicide.

“He stayed with me for the last 10 to 12 days in my mess at Berhampur before committing suicide. He had also told me about committing the crime. He said that she (Mahalaxmi) was blackmailing him constantly and also extracted large amounts of money and gold ornaments from him," said Roy's younger brother on Thursday.

He added that the family members were angry with him as he couldn’t send any money to the family.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday arrested a suspected militant having links with the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

According to sources, the arrested individual has been identified as Girish Bora. He was residing with his family in Jigani Industrial Area near Anekal, on the outskirts of the capital city of Karnataka.

Acting on a tip-off about Girish Bora, allegedly linked to ULFA, an NIA team which had come from Assam conducted a raid and arrested him.

Sources said that Girish Bora had planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at various locations in Guwahati, and later he had left the city.

Girish Bora had shifted his family to Bengaluru and settled here.

Spam menace: 3K registered senders whitelist over 70K links as per Centre’s directive

More than 3,000 registered senders have whitelisted more than 70,000 URLs, APKs (Android package kit) or OTT (over the top) links as per the government directive to safeguard consumers from unsolicited messages containing malicious links, it was announced on Thursday.

In a major step to curb the misuse of URLs (uniform resource locators) in messages, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had issued a directive on August 20, and then extended it till September 30.

The new rule, instructing all access providers to block any traffic containing URLs, APKs, or OTT links that have not been whitelisted, is set to be implemented by 1st October 2024.

To ensure smooth flow of SMS traffic containing URLs, TRAI advises registered senders to promptly upload their whitelisted URL/APK/OTT links to the portal of the respective Access Providers.

The Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a transnational wildlife trafficking attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh Border and recovered four golden pheasants in the North 24-Parganas district of West Bengal.

"There was an intelligence input regarding the possible smuggling of birds from across the border and troops of Amudiya Border Outpost were on an alert,” said a senior BSF official of the South Bengal Frontier, BSF.

He said that the jawans spotted two persons approaching the border fence from the Bangladesh side in a suspicious manner.
