Chandigarh, 29 March:
In continuation of the series of meetings being conducted by the Excise-Taxation Department with various stakeholders ahead of the New Excise Policy Year to commence from 1.4.2024 and the Election Model Code of Conduct currently in force, Deputy Commissioner cum Excise and Taxation Commissioner Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh IAS conducted a meeting on 29.03.2024, with the Licensees of Retail Liquor vends and was attended by Collector (Excise) cum Addl. Excise & Taxation Commissioner, AETC, ETOs and retail vend licensees of U.T. Chandigarh.
The Licensees were apprised regarding compliance of Excise Policy 2024-25 and enforcement of guidelines of Model Code of Conduct issued by ECI, in the wake of Lok Sabha Elections-2024. The Department also sensitised the stakeholders regarding implementation of the Excise Policy from 1st April 2024 in letter and spirit.
The department assured cooperation for smooth running of business however the stakeholders were given clear direction to strictly adhere to the Excise Policy 2024-25, Excise Act, 1914 & the rules framed thereunder and MCC guidelines. The Licensees were apprised that any violation or laxity will entail strict action under the policy as well as penal action under the IPC shall be initiated. Emphasis was placed on curbing the menace of interstate smuggling.
A similar meeting was earlier conducted on 28.3.2024 with the bottlers and wholesalers of Liquor of UT Chandigarh.
