The Department of English at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University celebrated National Cinema Day 2024 with an engaging extension lecture titled “The Language of Films” delivered by Ripudaman Singh, Assistant Professor at Chitkara School of Mass Communication, Chitkara University, Rajpura, Punjab. The event began with a warm welcome and introduction of the guest speaker by Ms. Jaspreet Kaur, Head of the Department of English. Mr. Singh provided insightful discussions on the art of filmmaking, the nuances of cinematic language, and its profound impact on society. He shed light on how films serve as powerful mediums of communication, conveying complex cultural, emotional, and political messages through visual storytelling. Parminder Kaur, Asst. Prof. Department of English, was the host of the event. Dr. Navshagandeep Kaur, head, department of Sociology and the faculty members from both the Departments of English and Sociology were present. The lecture offered students a chance to delve deeper into the world of cinema and engage in interactive discussions with an expert in the field. The session was part of the department's ongoing efforts to enhance students' understanding of diverse academic topics, including the intersection of films and literature.The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Baljeet Kaur, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Ripudaman Singh for his insightful presentation and thanked Professor Emeritus Dr. Swaraj Raj and former Head of the Department Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal for their guidance.
