PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib organised one day awareness camp for mobilization of college students under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR-ATARI Zone 1, Ludhiana. The programme was conducted at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib in which more than 100 students participated.
Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Associate Director (Training) highlighted the activities of KVK and role of college students in creating awareness about the ill effects of burning crop residue. He highlighted the recommended paddy residue management technologies. He discussed in detail about proper management of paddy residue through the use of farm machinery like MB Plough, rotavator, mulcher, super seeder, surface seeder and smart seeder. Dr. Reet Verma Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) appraised the students about the beneficial insect and their role in maintaining population of harmful insects in details. Dr. Ajay Kumar Assistant Professor (Soil Science) delivered lecture on the ill-effects of paddy residue burning on soil health. Dr. Amanpreet Singh Assistant Professor (Agronomy) appraised the students about the different methods to control weeds in Rabi crops. Dr. Lakhvir Singh, Principal, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College motivated the students for their participation in the programme. Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, Dean Academics thanked KVK Faculty for organizing the programme to create awareness among the college students on crop residue management.
