The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has set top priority to garden composting as part of its sustainable waste management efforts.

As per the directions of Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, the Horticulture wing of MCC managed all the dry leaves and grass cutting besides other Horticulture waste generated from the gardens through sustainable waste management with 104 compost pits, which have been successfully made operational across the city.

While sharing about the initiative, the Commissioner said that MCC is actively converting dry leaves collected from parks and trees into high-quality manure to be further used in the flower beds, implementing the RRR (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle) principle.

He further said that this initiative not only ensured effective recycling of organic waste but also plays a vital role in enhancing soil fertility and promoting the growth of plants and flowers in city gardens. By focusing on composting, MCC is taking a significant step towards environmental conservation and urban greenery.

The Commissioner said the Municipal Corporation is committed to expanding and strengthening its composting efforts to make Chandigarh a cleaner and greener city. He appealed the Citizens to support and adopt eco-friendly waste management practices to contribute to this sustainable movement under Swachh Bharat Mission.
