Municipal Corporation Chandigarh Improves Public Toilets for Better Hygiene*

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is working to keep public and community toilets clean and well-maintained for everyone. More than 300 public toilets in markets, parks & Green belts and community toilets in colonies are being regularly cleaned to ensure hygiene and comfort for users. Cleaning staff have been provided with gloves, aprons, and other safety gear to protect them while they work.
 
While speaking on the cleanliness of public toilets City Mayor Mrs. Harpreet Kaur Babla said here today that to make it easier for people to find and use public toilets, technology is being used. All toilets are now marked on online maps, so anyone can locate the nearest facility quickly. QR codes have also been installed in many toilets, allowing users to report issues like dirt, water shortages, or repairs needed.
 
Women’s toilets are now equipped with incinerators to safely dispose of used sanitary pads, making them cleaner and more convenient. Additionally, green spaces with plants are being created around toilet areas to improve air quality and make the surroundings more pleasant.
 
Speking about to ensure regular cleaning, Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS,  Commissione, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said that the management of these toilets is handled by market and resident welfare groups, self-help groups, and contractors. A digital system is being used to track cleaning staff, ensuring that toilets remain well-maintained. Steps are also being taken to provide fair and equal salaries to all workers.
 
He further said that with these efforts, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is committed to providing clean, accessible, and eco-friendly public toilets for all residents and visitors.
