The student of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib Preet Kaur, an NSS volunteer from the Department of Education, was selected as part of the Punjab contingent to participate in the prestigious 8th North East Youth Festival (NEYF) 2025 held in Gangtok, Sikkim. Dr. Harneet Billing, Programme Coordinator (NSS), shared that a 10-member team of the best NSS volunteers from various universities and colleges of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh took part in the festival. The team was led by Programme Officer Prof. Jagdeep Singh from University College Dhilwan, who served as the contingent leader. The festival, organized by the State Sports and Youth Affairs Department of Sikkim in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, NSS, and NYKS, was held from March 17 to March 20, 2025. Over 1500 youth from across the country participated in this grand event, which featured cultural performances, traditional showcases, and discussions on leadership, sustainability, and social change. In a moment of pride for Punjab, Preet Kaur secured the first position in cultural representation, where she mesmerized the audience with a Punjabi dance performance.
Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing extended his heartfelt congratulations to Preet Kaur and the entire team for their remarkable achievements. He emphasized the importance of youth engagement in national events that foster cultural exchange and leadership skills.
Adding to the encouragement, Prof. Pritpal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, lauded the students for their dedication and commitment. He highlighted that such opportunities empower young minds to become responsible citizens and ambassadors of their rich heritage. The participation of these volunteers at the 8th NEYF 2025 stands as a testament to the NSS's mission of instilling discipline, social responsibility, and leadership among youth through active participation in nation-building activities.
