The Birthday of Lt. Col. H.S. Sarao was celebrated on his completing 100 years by Brother Hood Welfare Society (Regt.) Sector18 Chandigarh and other Associations in the Community Centre Sec.18 Chandigarh. After entertainment the cake was cut. He was facilitated by giving momento and other gifts.

Mr. B.S. Dhaliwal IP President told his History. Dhaliwal said Col. was born on 24-4-1925.He grew up under the care of his grandmother’s cousin sister who happened to be the Maharani of Faridkot. He stayed with the Royal Family in the Manimajra Fort and the Royal Palace at Faridkot till 1932. He joined Mahindra College Patiala in 1940, then Govt. College Ludhiana in 1941, Sikh National College Lahore in 1942 and St. Stephens College in 1943 before joining OTS Pune.

Commissioned in 24Med.Regt in 1950 He served at various places as officer. He has taken part in the 1961 Goa operations,1962The Indo-China war, the 1965 Indo-Pak war as a battery Commander and decorated for Gallantry with Sena Medal and finally as the Commanding Officer 176 Fd Regt. In the Chicken Neck area during the 1971 war.

He retired in 1975 and is now settled in Chandigarh. He was Secretary Chandigarh Club for 8years, President of Brother Hood Welfare Society Sec18CHD for 12 years and Now Chairman of the same Society. He was instrumental in getting the first Community Centre of Chandigarh made in Sector18.
His motto in life has been ’Sarbat da Bhalla’- Goodwill to all. He is fond of Urdu Poetry, Gardening and Yoga. He is living with his Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
