Large office spaces reach 45 pc of overall commercial transactions in India

Large office space contributed 45 per cent of the overall commercial transactions across eight leading cities in the country in the January-June period this year, a report showed on Friday.

Transactions for office spaces above 100,000 square feet recorded a substantial YoY growth of 54 per cent in the first half of 2024 — at 15.69 million square feet from from 10.18 million square feet in H1 2023, the report by Knight Frank India sated.

Bengaluru’s commercial market continued to witness leasing domination in office spaces with 100,000 sq ft. In H1 2024, large office spaces contributed 53 per cent to Bengaluru's total office transaction volumes, amounting to 4.5 million sq ft.

According to Shishir Baijal, Chairman and Managing Director, Knight Frank, the rise in office space transactions is primarily fuelled by corporations establishing Global Capability Centres (GCCs) to expand their long-term operations in the market.

The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the corruption case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam.

In a crucial judgment pronounced, the Supreme Court said "conditions to be fixed by the trial court".

Two concurring judgments by two justices were pronounced.

In his opinion, Justice Surya Kant granted bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in the case. The other judge, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, authored a separate opinion raising serious questions on the timings of arrest by the CBI and held the "belated arrest" by the central agency to be unjustified.

India jumps to Tier 1 in Global Cybersecurity Index 2024

India has jumped to Tier 1 in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024, released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), when it comes to role-modelling as part of the country’s cybersecurity commitments and resulting impacts.

The ‘GCI 2024’ used a new five-tier analysis, a shift that allows a greater focus on each country's advances with cybersecurity commitments.

The report placed 46 countries in Tier 1, the highest of the five tiers, reserved for “role modelling" countries that demonstrate a strong commitment in all five cybersecurity pillars.

India topped the chart for adopting measures like legal, technical, capacity development and cooperation as areas of relative strength. Organisational measures was a listed as an area of potential growth for the country.

Sensex trades lower, ITC and HUL top losers

Indian frontline indices opened lower on Friday due to heavyweights like ITC, HUL, Asian Paints and M&M falling the most.

At 9.58 a.m., Sensex was down 200 points or 0.25 per cent at 82,762 and Nifty was down 63 points or 0.25 per cent at 25,325.

The broader market trend remained bullish. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), 1697 shares were trading in the green and 598 shares in the red.

In early trading hours, Nifty midcap 100 index was up 363 points or 0.61 per cent at 60,003 and Nifty smallcap 100 index was up 128 points or 0.66 per cent at 19,482.

In the Sensex pack, Tata Steel, Wipro, JSW Steel, Tata Motors, Power Grid, Nestle, IndusInd Bank, NTPC, SBI, Bajaj Finserv, SBI and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the top gainers. Asian Paints, HUL, ITC, Bharti Airtel, M&M, Bajaj Finance, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki and UltraTech Cement were the top losers.

The controversial Assamese actress Sumi Borah and her husband Tarkik Borah were sent to five days of police custody and the investigating officers have been conducting marathon interrogation of the couple to unearth more details into the Rs 2,200 crore online trading scam, officials said on Friday.

Tarkik Borah is a photographer and his brother, Amlan Borah, was also arrested by the police from Bihar’s Muzaffarnagar district. He was sent to three days of police custody by the Court.

The actress was kept in custody under Dibrugarh police. She along with her husband surrendered before the police on Thursday morning.

Sumi Borah was closely connected to the kingpin of this huge online scam -- Bishal Phukan. Both Phukan and Borah are residents of Dibrugarh town.

Former US President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has announced that he will not participate in another presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee.

In a post on Truth Social, his social media platform, Trump on Thursday claimed that he won the debate hosted by ABC News in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, and accused Harris of refusing to accept debate invitations from Fox News, NBC News and CBS News.

South Korean military takes down over 1,300 Chinese-made surveillance cameras

The South Korean military has recently taken down more than 1,300 surveillance cameras installed at various bases, including those near the border with North Korea, after discovering they were Chinese-made equipment, a military official said Friday.

In late July, military and intelligence authorities found out the surveillance cameras supplied by a South Korean company were produced in China during military equipment examinations, news agency reported, citing the official.

The military has uninstalled all of the equipment in question and is replacing it with domestic equipment due to security concerns. Currently, about 100 of them have been newly installed.
