CRPF trooper injured in J&K road accident succumbs

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper injured in a road accident in Jammu & Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday, succumbed to critical injuries on Saturday in the hospital.

Nineteen CRPF troopers were injured on Friday when their vehicle went out of the driver’s control and skidded off the road.

The injured troopers belong to 181-F company of the CRPF. A rescue team immediately reached the accident spot and shifted the injured to the hospital in Chrar-e-Sharief town in Budgam district.

Attending doctors at Chrar-e-Sharief Hospital on Friday referred nine injured troopers to SMHS hospital in Srinagar city.

One of the injured troopers succumbed to injuries in the hospital today, officials said.

Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday condemned the killing of a non-local by terrorists in Shopian district.

Omar said on his X on Friday, “Very sorry to hear about the death of Ashok Chouhan at the hands of militants in South Kashmir. These attacks are abhorrent & must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. I send my condolences to the family & loved ones of the deceased."

On Friday, police recovered the bullet-riddled dead body of a Bihar resident identified as Ashok Chouhan in Wanduna village of Zainpora area in Shopian district.

“The body was sent for completion of medico-legal formalities. A case has been registered in this incident and an investigation is underway,” police said.

World Health Organization (WHO) teams have been on the ground delivering supplies to health facilities before the second phase of the polio vaccination campaign starts in southern Gaza, UN humanitarians said.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Friday said the second phase of the polio vaccination campaign in southern Gaza is to start on Saturday and aims to provide more than 293,000 children with the second dose of the vaccine and more than 284,000 with vitamin A supplements, reports news agency.

The second round of the polio vaccination campaign concluded in central Gaza on Wednesday, with more than 181,000 children receiving the vaccine and over 148,000 children getting vitamin A supplements, following the first round conducted from September 1 to 12, reaching more than 559,000 children across the Gaza Strip.

Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) has taken major action against the driver and the female conductor in the case of driving a bus by hanging a person at the gate. The department has suspended the bus driver and conductor. An investigation has been started in this regard. If both cannot give a satisfactory answer within three months, action will be taken to remove them from the job.

South Korea to face Palestine in away World Cup qualifier in Amman

South Korea will face Palestine in an away World Cup qualifying match next month in Jordan as a neutral venue due to an ongoing conflict with Israel.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced late Friday that the Group B match between South Korea and Palestine on November 19, part of the third round in the AFC qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will take place at Amman International Stadium in Amman, News Agency reported.

The South Koreans defeated Jordan 2-0 at the same stadium on October 10.

Coached by Hong Myung-bo, South Korea are leading Group B with 10 points. After starting the third round with a goalless draw against Palestine in Seoul on September 5, South Korea have won three consecutive matches, most recently beating Iraq 3-2 at home on Tuesday.

A Vistara flight bound for London from Delhi, was diverted to Frankfurt after a bomb threat. It has landed safely at Frankfurt Airport, the airline said on Saturday.

Mandatory security checks were being carried out. Once these checks are completed, the flight will continue its journey to London.

"Flight UK17 from Delhi to London (DEL-LHR) has been diverted to Frankfurt (FRA) and is expected to arrive in Frankfurt at 2110 hours LT (Local Time). Please stay tuned for further updates," the airline said in a post on the social media platform, X.

Elon Musk-run SpaceX has won a $733 million, eight-launch contract from the US Space Force.

The US Space Force’s Space Systems Command issued Launch Service Task Orders (LSTOs) totalling $733,566,001 to SpaceX under the “National Security Space Launch Phase 3 Lane 1.”

“In this era of Great Power Competition, it is imperative to not leave capability on the ground,” said Brigadier Gen Kristin Panzenhagen, programme executive officer for Assured Access to Space.

Yahya Sinwar died from gunshot to his head

The autopsy reports of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar's body revealed that he was killed by a gunshot wound to his head during an intelligence-based ground raid in southern Gaza.

Sinwar, who led the politburo of Hamas, was found by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Tel al-Sultan area of Rafah. The 828 Brigade of the IDF discovered Sinwar's body during their operation.

According to a report, Israeli soldiers cut off one of Sinwar's fingers for DNA confirmation. The soldiers reportedly found a body resembling Sinwar's in a hideout and used a DNA profile from his time in an Israeli prison, where he was held for two decades until his release in a 2011 prisoner-swap deal.

Chen Kugel, the chief pathologist at Israel's National Center of Forensic Medicine, confirmed the method used to verify Sinwar's identity, as reported.
