Israeli army says struck suspects collecting drone crossing from Israel to Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that its Air Force attacked on Saturday suspects attempting to retrieve a drone in southern Gaza.

It added that the drone "was being monitored" by Israel throughout its flight, which had crossed overnight from Israeli territory into Gaza in what is suspected to be an attempt to smuggle weapons.

The IDF did not specify the number of casualties.

Israeli news website Ynet reported that the IDF is investigating what the drone has smuggled into the Strip.

Dozens injured after Australia's army vehicles crash

An incident involving two Australian Defence Force (ADF) vehicles on Saturday caused a number of ADF personnel to be injured, Australia's defence department said in a statement.

According to the statement, the two vehicles were providing community support to Lismore, a city located in the Northern Rivers region of the state of New South Wales, following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

"On Saturday 8 March 2025, there was an incident involving two Australian Defence Force (ADF) vehicles that were providing community support to Lismore following ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. A number of ADF personnel have been injured. The welfare of ADF members and their families is a priority and Defence’s focus is on supporting those involved. Due to the developing nature of the incident, no further information will be available at this time, however Defence will provide further updates when possible," read the statement issued by the Australian Defence Ministry.

In a first the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has set a new benchmark by imparting world class training to 306 Principals and teachers abroad for the sole motive of imparting quality training to the students in government schools.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, on Saturday flagged off the seventh batch of 36 Principals for training at Principals Academy, Singapore from March 9-15. Prior to this Punjab has sent six batches of 198 principals/education officers for a five day Leadership Development Programme to Singapore and 72 Primary Cadre Teachers to Turku, Finland. Apart from it three batches of 152 Headmaster/education officers were sent to IIM Ahmedabad.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday announced that the state Government will open two brainstorming centres at Amritsar and Mohali for students to share business ideas on pattern of Speakers Platform at Munich in Germany.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the state government has already introduced Business Blasters initiative at school level for idea sharing and Rs 11 crore has been disbursed to the students. He said that the sole motive is to provide platforms for brainstorming to the students so new business ideas can prop up. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that on the same pattern the state government is going to set up Brainstorming Centres for new business ideas at Amritsar and SAS Nagar (Mohali).

Continuing its endeavor to upscale the teaching skills of the teachers and principals of government schools, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday flagged off the seventh batch of 36 Principals to get training at Principal’s Academy, Singapore from March 9-15.

Interacting with the media persons, the Chief Minister, accompanied by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, said that it is a red letter day in the history of the state as this will go a long way in imparting quality education to the students. He said that the well trained staff has helped in enhancing the rate of admissions in the government schools of the state adding that Punjab is witnessing education revolution across the state as the state government has laid major thrust on it. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that now the teachers and Principals are focusing only on education as for all the rest of work, the required staff has been recruited by the state government.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday slammed the Akali leadership for taking revenge from the Jathedars by unceremonious removing them.

On a query, the Chief Minister said that unceremonious removal of Jatehdar sahib is unfortunate as now the politics is choosing the religious leaders. He said that the Akalis had indulged in theatrics by apologising for the sins committed by them in full public glare at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. However, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that after the Jathedars pronounced Akali leadership guilty of their unpardonable sins, since then they are being targeted.

The Chief Minister said that out of vengeance the Akali leadership is removing the Jathedars which is unwarranted and undesirable. He said that this has bruised the psyche of entire Sikh community and they will never forgive them. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this trend of picking and removing the Jathedar Sahib from the pocket of these ‘rejected leaders’ reflects the sorry state of affairs.

Time to enhance gender diversity in $380 billion logistics sector: DPIIT

A new study by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Saturday recommended policy measures to enhance gender diversity in the rapidly growing logistics industry, which is projected to reach $380 billion by 2025.

Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary, DPIIT, released the study titled "Enabling Women's Participation in India's Logistics Sector,” prepared in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH under the Indo-German Development Cooperation project, “Climate Friendly Green Freight Transport in India (Green Freight Project).”

The study highlighted key insights and strategies to enhance women's participation in India's logistics sector.

Karnataka : Two arrested in gang rape case of Israeli tourist & homestay owner

In a major development, Karnataka Police arrested two persons on Saturday in connection with the horrific incident of three persons committing gang rape on two women, a tourist from Israel, and a female local homestay owner and killing a male Indian tourist who was with them.

The incident was reported from the Gangavathi Rural police station located close to the UNESCO heritage site Hampi.

The arrested persons are identified as 22-year-old Mallesh aka Handi Malla and 21-year-old Chetan Sai Sillekyatar. Both are arrested by the Koppal Rural police. Both the arrested accused are locals and residents of Sainagar in Gangavathi taluk in Koppal district.
