Nine-month-old infant found dead in Bihar’s Bhojpur district

A nine-month-old infant was mysteriously found dead in Bihar’s Bhojpur districts, police said on Thursday.

The infant named Yuvraj Kumar, the son of Vikas Kumar, was reportedly missing since Wednesday evening from his maternal home in Bhorhi Tola village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Jagdishpur police station in the district.

Yuvraj's family, originally from Tiyar village had come to Bhorhi Tola to celebrate the Durga Puja festival along with other family members.

“We have found the dead body in the bushes in Bhorhi Tola village. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been called in to collect evidence, and the incident is being investigated,” said the SHO of Jagdishpur police station.

He added that during the investigation, it appeared that the infant was strangled to death.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued an orange alert for 11 districts in Tamil Nadu from October 12-15.

The districts, where the orange alert was issued, were Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Myladuthurai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi.

A low-pressure area between Lakshadweep and adjoining areas of the Arabian Sea was likely to move and intensify into a depression, the weather office said in a statement.

It has predicted heavy rainfall for Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, the ghat areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tiruchi, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Theni and Dindigul areas of Tamil Nadu.

The fast-unto-death agitation by junior doctors in support of their demands on the rape and murder of their colleagues in R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital entered the sixth day on Thursday.

The crucial meeting between the junior doctors and the West Bengal government, which continued after Wednesday midnight, failed to reach any conclusion.

The junior doctors could not get written assurance about the timeline as to when their demands would be fulfilled.

The impasse continued even after over 250 senior doctors, including members of the medico-academic fraternity from state-run medical colleges and hospitals, tendered mass resignations from their services during the last two days.

The much-hyped meeting between the West Bengal government and the junior doctors protesting against the ghastly rape and murder of a fellow medic of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital remained inconclusive as the junior doctors failed to extract any specific and written commitment from the state government on the timeline by when their demands in the matter will be fulfilled.

After coming out of the meeting that started at around 9 p.m. Wednesday and continued after midnight, West Bengal Junior Doctors' Front (WBJDF) representative Debasish Halder said that the state government representatives wanted the protesting medics to call off their agitation till the end of the Durga Puja festival starting from Thursday, however, "when it came to giving some specific commitments from the state government on our demands, they refused to give us any assurance".

At least four people were killed and three others were injured when the boundary wall of a government transport office collapsed and fell on some huts after heavy rain at Karsingsa on the outskirts of the capital city on Wednesday, officials said.

A Police official said that the boundary wall of the central workshop of the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) collapsed early on Wednesday after heavy incessant rainfall for many hours.

The boundary wall of the APSTS collapsed and fell on some huts when the victims were sleeping leading to the fatalities.

Four people, identified as Urmila Biswas, Vikash Biswas, Mukibur Rahman and Pal Biswas., died on the spot, and three others were injured.

With the Tamil Nadu Police’s crackdown at the Samsung India plant in Sunguvarchatram, Sriperumbudur, arresting striking workers and union leaders, tension is mounting in the area.

The workers of the Samsung India plant have been on strike since September 9 this year demanding better wages, improved facilities, and recognition of their trade union.

The police also arrested leaders affiliated with the CPI(M)-backed trade union, Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), in the early hours of Wednesday from their homes.

It may be noted that of the 1,800 workers at the company, 1,000 have joined the strike, while 800 have reported for duty.

Missing TA soldier's body found in forests of J&K’s Anantnag

The body of the Territorial Army (TA) soldier abducted by terrorists was found on Wednesday in J&K’s Anantnag district.

Officials said the body of the TA soldier, who was abducted from the Shangus area of the Anantnag district, was found in the forest area of Kokernag tehsil in the same district.

Two TA soldiers went missing from the forest area of Kokernag on Tuesday during an anti-terror operation launched by the Army.

“One of them managed to escape from the abductors despite being injured. He was rushed to a medical facility for treatment and his condition is stable now. A massive search operation was launched in the area and the body of the missing soldier has been found in the forests,” officials said.

Eight foreign tourists injured in road accident in Bihar

Eight foreign tourists were injured when their tempo traveller was hit by a truck in Bihar's Jehanabad district on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred around 7.30 a.m. on the Patna-Gaya four-lane National Highway 83, near Salempur village, under the Kadauna police station.

A speeding truck hit the tempo-traveller from behind after which the tourist vehicle overturned and fell into a pit injuring its occupants.

Officers from the Kadauna police station arrived at the accident site and rushed the injured to Sadar Hospital in Jehanabad.

Of the injured, three were transferred to Patna for advanced medical care.

RG Kar case: Hunger strike by junior doctors enters 5th day

The fast-unto-death protest of seven junior doctors at Esplanade in Kolkata, over the rape and murder of their colleague in the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College Hospital entered the fifth day on Wednesday that coincides with the occasion of Maha Shashthi or the sixth day of Navaratri.

On this auspicious day of celebration for the people of West Bengal, the protesting juniors will carry out different programmes in support of their demands on the issue.

There will be a blood donation camp at R.G. Kar's premises in memory of the ghastly rape and murder. The protesting junior doctors will also carry the symbolic statue of the victim, “A woman in pain” and visit the different Durga Puja pandals from North Kolkata to South Kolkata distributing leaflets containing their 10-point demands on which they are protesting.
