A widow, a dispute, a tragedy: Etawah murder mystery cracked

In a shocking case in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh, a woman was brutally murdered over a land-related financial dispute.

The body of Anjali, a widow and mother of two, aged between 28 and 30, was recovered in a mutilated state on Saturday near the Chambal river. She had been missing for the past five days.

According to the police, the accused even made a video call after the murder to show the victim’s body to his father and wife.

Earlier, on Thursday, Anjali's burnt scooter was found in a drain near the ITI crossing in the Civil Lines police station area.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has said that it has seized foreign-origin gold worth Rs 6.30 crore from a passenger at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here.

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted a passenger who had arrived from Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG 317.

A detailed personal search led to the recovery of 14 gold bars of various weights, cumulatively weighing 6,735.42 grams. The gold, valued at approximately Rs 6.30 crore, had been cleverly concealed in the passenger’s shoe.

“The concealment was ingenious, and the gold bars were found hidden in the footwear worn by the passenger,” a DRI official said.

The Delhi Police dismantled a gambling racket in the city's Vasant Vihar area, apprehending four gamblers and recovering over Rs 31,000 in cash, carbon papers and notepads from their possession.

The operation, undertaken by South-West Delhi Police, followed secret inputs received by a Sub-Inspector on Wednesday, in its bid to identify and dismantle spots of organised crime.

The four gamblers arrested by the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of Delhi Police have been identified as Pappu Bagh, Sanjay, Mandeep Kumar Gupta and Karan, all in the age bracket of 25-31 years.

"A total stake money Rs 31,060/-, four note pads, three carbon papers and three pens were recovered from their possession," said an official statement.

Naidu's accomplice, Rahman (28) and several drug dealers are currently absconding.

In a shocking incident, a young woman was waylaid and sexually harassed under the Banasawadi police station limits in Bengaluru.

The incident occurred three days ago on Hennur Main Road, near the Indian Petrol Bunk in the Banasawadi locality, and has come to light only recently.

According to the police, the incident took place when the victim was riding her scooter from her friend’s residence to her own at around 4.30 a.m. Taking advantage of the deserted surroundings, two miscreants chased her scooter and waylaid her.

They behaved inappropriately and sexually harassed her by touching her private parts. When the woman raised an alarm, passers-by stopped and came to her rescue. However, when the public attempted to catch the accused, they threatened them with a knife and managed to flee the scene.

The Kolkata Police on Saturday arrested a man involved in an inter-state racket of printing fake birth certificates in Bihar and using them in West Bengal to arrange fake Indian passports for illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Sleuths of the Security Control Organisation (SCO) of Kolkata Police arrested Azad Alam in the morning from Garden Reach area on the southern outskirts of Kolkata.

He had applied for a passport and furnished a birth certificate generated in Bihar as a supporting document, but it was found to be fake, said the police.

Alam is being interrogated about the agents through whom he managed to get the fake birth certificate from Bihar, said an official.

The Manipur Police arrested 11 militants belonging to various banned outfits and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during the past 24 hours, officials said here on Friday.

A police official said four militants were arrested from Imphal East district, five from Imphal West district and one each from Bishnupur and Thoubal districts. The arrested extremists belong to proscribed PREPAK, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) -- all are Manipur’s valley-based outfits.

The arrested militants were involved in abduction, forcible collection of money from traders, officials, and contractors, and were also issuing threat notices to people.

Two dreaded criminals were arrested following an encounter with the police on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

The accused, identified as Manish Yadav and Sonu Yadav of Katihar district in Bihar, were arrested late Thursday night.

Police said the accused persons reportedly belong to a dreaded gang of chain snatchers active in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.

After reviewing the CCTV footage, the police identified the accused and initiated efforts to nab them.

The locals, who rushed to the spot on hearing the screams of the victim, managed to get hold of one of the rapists and handed him over to the police after thrashing him. The police, after grilling the accused, arrested one more culprit. One of the accused persons was identified as Ashif.

The police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita Sections 115 (2), 126 (2), 351 (2), 351 (3), 352, 64, 3 (5). The incident took place between 1.20 a.m. and 1.45 a.m.
