Desh Bhagat University recently hosted an impactful session led by Kayoko Govindasamy, Founder of Hanaru Women’s Health Fundraising Inc, Australia. The event brought together over 60 students and faculty members to discuss crucial topics surrounding gender equality, with a specific focus on addressing period stigma and the importance of including boys in menstrual health education. During the session, Kayoko Govindasamy highlighted the pressing need to dismantle societal taboos related to menstrual health, emphasizing that true progress in India requires open and inclusive conversations on these issues. Environmental concerns linked to menstrual health were also discussed, adding a crucial dimension to the dialogue. The male students of Desh Bhagat University responded with enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility, expressing their commitment to becoming agents of change. They voiced their determination to initiate discussions within their families and social circles, aiming to raise awareness and foster a culture of understanding and support. In a symbolic gesture, 17 students accepted Hanaru’s gift of washable sanitary napkins, underscoring their readiness to take practical steps towards breaking down the barriers of menstrual stigma. This initiative not only reflects the students’ dedication to the cause but also serves as a significant step towards a more equitable future.Kayoko Govindasamy expressed her gratitude to the Vice President Dr. Harsh Sadawarti , faculty, and the students of Desh Bhagat University for their warm welcome and active participation.
