World Water Day; Mayor and Commissioner appeals citizens to Save Water for the Future*

On the occasion of World Water Day, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) has reinforced its commitment to water conservation and urged residents to take responsible steps to prevent water wastage.

City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla emphasized the need for public cooperation, stating,
"Water is a precious resource. We must save it today to secure the future of our children. Every drop counts!"

Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS said,
"Our city is facing increased water demand. It is crucial to stop careless wastage and adopt sustainable water habits. Let’s work together to protect our water sources."
Strict Action Against Water Wastage
To tackle water wastage, the MCC will take strict action against violators. The following activities are now punishable with heavy fines:

• Watering gardens/lawns during water supply hours.
• Washing vehicles and courtyards using fresh drinking water.
• Overflow from water tanks due to negligence.
• Leaks in water pipelines and meter chambers.
• Illegal use of booster pumps on water supply lines.
Repeat offenders may face water supply disconnection without prior notice. A fine will be imposed and collected through the regular water bill.

The Municipal Corporation appeals to all Chandigarh residents to:

Fix leaking taps and pipelines immediately.

Use buckets instead of hoses for washing cars.

Water plants in the evening or early morning to reduce evaporation.

Avoid using drinking water for non-essential purposes.
By making small changes in daily habits, citizens can contribute to saving thousands of liters of water every day.
