The Department of History at Desh Bhagat University, in collaboration with the SaptSindhu Study Centre, hosted a three-day workshop titled “Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the Indian National Army (INA)”. The workshop was dedicated to honoring the legacy of Sardar Lal Singh the father of Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and other unsung heroes whose valiant efforts played a crucial role in India’s struggle for independence.
The workshop featured a series of enlightening lectures by Prof. Vivek Kumar, a former professor from Central University Jammu, who served as the resource person for the event. His sessions delved into Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s visionary leadership and the strategic impact of the INA on the freedom movement. The event opened with a warm welcome from Dr. Dharminder Singh, the coordinator, who underscored the need to revisit and revere the INA’s role in India’s liberation. In his inaugural address, Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh paid homage to Netaji’s indomitable spirit and highlighted the invaluable contributions of freedom fighters like S. Lal Singh. Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Advisor Dr. Virinder Singh further emphasized the importance of acknowledging both prominent and lesser-known heroes, urging students to draw inspiration from their patriotism and resilience.
On the final day, the focus shifted to commemorating the sacrifices of young revolutionaries such as Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru-martyrs whose valor continues to inspire generations. The workshop concluded on a reflective note with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ram Singh Gurna. He expressed sincere gratitude to Prof. Vivek Kumar and all participants, encouraging the student community to internalize the enduring values of discipline, resilience, and patriotism that defined India’s freedom fighters. A panel comprising esteemed academicians, including Director In-charge Dr. Renu Sharma and Professors Dr Kanwaljit Singh, Ajay Pal Shekhawat, Jyoti Sharma, Gurwinder, Subhdeep, and Navninder Kaur, ensured that the legacy of Netaji’s ideals resonated throughout the sessions.
