A team of four Esteemed Vice Chancellors from prominent universities of Punjab visited Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, as part of the initiative recommended by the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab. This programme seeks to encourage universities across the state to recognise and adopt best practices in the realm of higher education.
Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, the Worthy Vice Chancellor of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to Dr. Manpreet Singh Manna, Vice Chancellor of Chandigarh University, Mohali; Dr. Dharamjeet Singh Parmar, Vice Chancellor of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar; Dr. Hemant Sharma, Vice Chancellor of GNA University, Phagwara; and Dr. Abhishek Tripathi, Vice Chancellor of CT University, Ludhiana. He expressed his delight over their gracious visit to the University which brought a wealth of experience, expertise, and innovative perspectives to the University, enriching the exchange of ideas on maintaining and elevating standards of quality and excellence in higher education. The visit was meticulously planned under the able of administration of the Registrar of the University Prof. (Dr.) Tejbir Singh. Prof. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs of the University while talking to the media shared that the visiting Vice Chancellors deeply appreciated the vision and mission of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, as well as the noble mandate on which the institution functions. He said that the team commended the University’s wide range of scholarship schemes and its strong emphasis on community welfare programmes. It was noted that over 70% of the University’s students are girls, and more than 80% of the student body belongs to economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Remarkably, all of these students are receiving quality education through various scholarships.The team appreciated that in alignment with its mission of serving humanity through education, the University offers multiple scholarship programmes, such as the "Sri Guru Granth Sahib Scholarship," "Scholarship to Girl Students," "Fee Waiver Scheme for Needy and Meritorious Students," along with free-ship seats in M.A. Religious Studies, Post Matric Scholarships for SC students, the Sunny Oberoi Scholarship Scheme, and SGGSWU Scholarships for SC students.Dr. Ankdeep Kaur Attwal, Coordinator of Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the University, in her presentation highlighted the strengths of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University which lies in its steadfast dedication to academic excellence, inclusive education, and holistic development, underpinned by a committed faculty and robust infrastructure. She highlighted that true to the Sikh principle of Sarbat da Bhala (welfare of all), the University endeavours to nurture compassionate, responsible, and socially aware individuals. Beyond academics, SGGSWU leads by example in social responsibility through initiatives such as plantation drives, Vand Chhako Camps, blood donation drives, cancer care and physiotherapy camps, the adoption of five villages, and regular free OPD services for the local community.
Through its Community Learning Programmes, the University organises workshops in computer literacy, healthcare, vocational training, and financial literacy to enhance employability among rural youth. Participation in national initiatives like the Fit India Movement and Swachhta Hi Seva campaign further strengthens the University’s role as a socially responsible institution. Special mention was made of the University’s Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) Programme, which offers agricultural science students practical exposure to sustainable and innovative farming practices. The University's NSS Unit remains highly active in community development projects, including teaching underprivileged children, organising blood donation camps, healthcare services, and cleanliness drives. The team also lauded Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University’s commitment to gender equity. They observed that the University has implemented regular gender audits, maintains over 50% female representation among faculty members, and ensures that most administrative positions are held by women. With 70% of its student body comprising girls, mainly from rural backgrounds, the University has become a beacon of empowerment for women. Strong support systems such as the Internal Complaints Committee, Women Grievance Redressal Cell, Counselling Cell, Health Services, and self-defense training initiatives like Gatka underscore the University’s commitment to creating a safe and nurturing environment for all. The team visited various departments and facilities of the University. They appreciated the facilities in the Physiotherapy Department, teaching skills and aids provided by the Department of Education and the services provided to farmers for sustainable agriculture by the Department of Agriculture. The team was greatly impressed by the Central Instrumentation facility of the University. They agreed that in every sphere — academic, social, and community — Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University remains deeply committed to its founding principles and continues to work tirelessly to serve society through excellence in education and beyond. At this historical meet, a book "Coloured Exercise Chart" wriiten by Dr. Pankajpreet Singh, Head, Department of Physiotherapy, Dr. Nitin Prithi and Dr. Supreet Bindra was released by the worthy Vice Chancellors and the dignitaries of the University. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Dean Research and Dr. Ramesh Arora, Director, IQAC of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University and Dr Manisha Malhotra, Director- University Institute of Computing, Chandigarh University were also present.
