Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Organizes Seminar on "The Fight for Equality: Women's Rights Today"

The University School of Law at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University organized a two-day seminar on "The Fight for Equality: Women's Rights Today". The seminar aimed to address the challenges women continue to face in various spheres of life. The event saw active participation from students, with paper presentations highlighting critical issues in women's rights. Loveleen Kaur and Prabhjeet Singh (B.A., LL.B., Semester 10) secured the first position, while Ms. Jasmeen (B.A., LL.B., Semester 10) won second place. Ms. Gurleen Kaur's paper was recognized as the best paper. The seminar was convened by Prof. (Dr.) Amita Kaushal, Head and Dean of the University School of Law, who emphasized the significance of fostering dialogue and awareness on gender equality. She remarked that the legal system must serve as a pillar of support for women, ensuring justice and equality. The chief guest of the event event was Paramjeet Kaur Landran, Member, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar. In her address, she stressed the importance of education and legal awareness in empowering women. She said that Women have always been the backbone of society, and it is our collective responsibility to provide them equal opportunities to thrive. Dipti Goyal, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib, attended as the Special Invitee. She highlighted the judiciary's role in safeguarding women's rights and apprised students about various schemes under NALSA. The seminar was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Pritpal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the University. In his opening remarks, Dr. Singh reiterated the University’s commitment to gender inclusivity and women’s empowerment. He remarked that educating and empowering women is essential for the progress of society. Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, emphasized the responsibility of academic institutions in shaping a gender-equal society. Prof. (Dr.) Navdeep Kaur, Dean Research, highlighted the importance of collective action and legal awareness in achieving gender equality. Dr. Navneet Kaur, In-Charge and Co-Convenor, underscored the role of extracurricular activities in promoting gender sensitivity among students. The seminar concluded with an engaging discussion among students, faculty, and guests, on women empowerment and the role of education and law in fostering equality.
