Enough is enough, says Elon Musk over US FAA fining SpaceX ‘for trivia’

Blasting the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for fining SpaceX “for trivia”, CEO and founder Elon Musk on Friday said, “enough is enough”.

Taking to his social media platform X, Musk lashed out at the FAA for “attacking SpaceX for petty matters” while not taking any action against Boeing "for putting astronauts at risk".

The FAA had on Tuesday, proposed $633,009 in civil penalties against SpaceX for allegedly failing to follow its licence requirements during two launches in 2023, by statutorily-set civil penalty guidelines, a statement read.

The FAA stated that SpaceX used the unapproved launch control room for the PSN SATRIA mission and did not conduct the required T-2 hour poll on June 18, 2023. The agency also offered SpaceX a 30-day time to respond.

Flood crisis in Patna areas, CM Nitish Kumar conducts aerial survey

The flood situation in Patna and its surrounding districts has worsened with several villages submerged under the rising waters. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas and took stock of the situation.

The water level in the Ganga River crossed the danger mark at several places in the state capital. Areas like Danapur, Maner, Bind Tola, Fatuha, and Bakhtiyarpur are among the hardest hit in Patna, forcing many residents to flee to higher ground, such as roads, to escape the floodwaters.

In Maner, six panchayats -- Chihattar, Mahaveer Tola, Islamganj, Hathi Tola, Haldi Chapra, and Ratan Tola -- have been completely isolated from the mainland, exacerbating the difficulties for residents.

Additionally, key locations like Gulbi Ghat, Kataiya Ghat, and Triveni Sangam are submerged, further disrupting life in the region.

Russia ready to defend Arctic interests amid NATO drills: FM Lavrov

Russia is prepared to defend its interests in the Arctic, even through military means, as NATO increases its military exercises in the region, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying.

"We observe how NATO is escalating exercises related to potential crises in the Arctic. Our country is fully prepared to defend its interests on military, political, and military-technical fronts," Lavrov told an interview for the documentary series 'Soviet Breakthrough,' news agency reported.

Lavrov's comments come amid heightened tensions in the Arctic, where NATO has been ramping up its presence.

In July, the US Department of Defence released an updated version of its Arctic Strategy, outlining plans for joint military exercises with its allies to demonstrate combat readiness and operational compatibility. The strategy also highlights intentions to work with partners, local industries, and Alaska's native tribes to "strengthen integrated deterrence and increase shared security" in the region.

'Perfect storm' looms for catastrophic loss of life in Sudan: UN

The lethal combination of hunger, displacement and disease outbreaks in Sudan is creating "a perfect storm" for a catastrophic loss of lives, UN humanitarians warned.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said it sounded the alarm about a devastating cost to human life if the international community fails to act by providing aid funding, news agency reported.

"To fight hunger in the country, the World Food Programme (WFP) is rushing to reach people in the grip of famine," OCHA said.

However, the office said that without consistent humanitarian access, it will be impossible to meet growing needs.

Indian wagon makers projected to achieve 20 pc revenue growth in FY25

Indian wagon makers projected to achieve 20 pc revenue growth in FY25

Wagon makers in the country are on track to achieve 20 per cent growth in revenue this fiscal, riding on healthy order book, a report showed on Friday.

Logistics cost accounts for 14 per cent of India’s gross domestic product, significantly higher than 8-10 per cent in the US and some European countries.

To bridge the gap and improve efficiencies, the central government plans to increase the share of railways in transport. The cost of rail transport is half that of roads and increasing wagon availability is a step in that direction, according to the report by Crisil Ratings.

Additionally, improved scale of operations will propel operating margin 100 basis points (bps) leading to higher cash accrual. That, along with modest capital expenditure (capex) plans, will keep the credit profiles of these companies stable.

Graham Arnold steps down as Australia men's football coach

Graham Arnold has resigned as the coach of the Australian national football team, bringing an end to his six-year second stint at the helm, in the wake of a disappointing start to Australia's 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

A 1-0 home defeat to Bahrain, followed by a goalless draw against Indonesia, had raised concerns about the team's direction.

Arnold announced his resignation despite backing from Football Australia (FA) chief executive James Johnson just a week earlier. Johnson had publicly supported the 61-year-old, believing he could still guide the team back on track. However, Arnold felt it was time for a change.

"I said after our game against Indonesia that I had some decisions to make, and after deep reflection, my gut has told me it’s time for change. Arnold said in a statement released by FA. I've made the decision to resign based upon what’s best for the nation, the players, and Football Australia. I've given absolutely everything I can to the role, and I am immensely proud of what has been achieved during my tenure."
