In a bid to raise awareness about malaria among the general public in Punjab, Dr. Hitinder Kaur, Director of Health and Family Welfare Department, Punjab, released a state-level malaria awareness poster. The spokesperson of the health department said that Dr. Hitinder Kaur emphasized that malaria can only be eradicated with the collective efforts of everyone, and by being aware, we can achieve the goal of making Punjab a malaria-free state. Dr. Kaur mentioned that in the state's villages, cities, and health centers, field staff are working to educate people about malaria and dengue, and every Friday is observed as "Dry Day" to prevent the spread of these diseases. She added that the state government provides free testing and treatment for malaria at all government health institutions, so anyone with fever should immediately contact the nearest health institution. The Civil Surgeons were instructed to display malaria awareness posters in all health institutions, villages, cities, and public places across the state. On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr. Davinderjeet Kaur, provided information about the symptoms, prevention, and treatment of malaria. She said that malaria is spread by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito, which breeds in stagnant water and bites at night and dawn. Symptoms include high fever, headache, sweating after the fever subsides, body weakness, and fatigue. She advised people to ensure that there is no stagnant water around their homes and to maintain cleanliness. To prevent mosquito bites, people should use mosquito nets, mosquito repellent creams, and wear full-sleeved clothing. Deputy Directors, Civil Surgeons, and other senior health officials were also present on the occasion.
