Female doctor attacked by patient at Hyderabad’s Gandhi Hospital

A female doctor was attacked by a patient at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad here on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the casualty ward when a patient, who was intoxicated, tried to grab the doctor, an intern, and assaulted her without any provocation.

The patient in his late 40s, was brought to hospital for treatment by a relative and he attacked the intern while she was attending to another patient.

The intern’s apron was torn when she tried to save herself.

Cambodia has recorded a drop in the retail prices of gasoline and diesel over the last 30 days, the Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday.

At gas stations on Wednesday, regular gasoline costs 3,900 riel (0.96 US dollars) per liter, while diesel costs 3,750 riel (0.92 US dollars) per liter, reflecting declines of 4.87 per cent and 6.35 per cent, respectively, over the past 30 days, according to the Ministry.

Cambodia currently relies entirely on the imports of diesel fuel and petroleum oils as its seabed's oil reserves have not been tapped yet, news agency reported.

The country's demand for oil products in Cambodia may increase to 4.8 million tonnes in 2030, up from 2.8 million tonnes in 2020, according to Cambodia's Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Two Israeli soldiers were killed when a military helicopter crashed in the Rafah area, southern Gaza Strip, during an overnight mission, Israel's army said on Wednesday.

The Black Hawk helicopter from the Israeli Air Force was evacuating an injured soldier to a hospital for medical treatment when it crashed. Seven other soldiers were injured and were subsequently evacuated for medical care, according to the army's statement.

An initial inquiry indicates that the crash was not due to enemy action," said the statement. The cause of the incident is under further investigation by a committee appointed by Air Force Commander Tomer Bar,news agency reported.

It added that the Air Force's operational activities remain unaffected.

A Russian freight train derailed late Tuesday in the border region of Belgorod after "interference by unauthorized people," the local railway operator said Wednesday.

The incident occurred at 11:17 p.m. local time (2017 GMT) on the Volokonovka-Novy Oskol section, involving 11 empty cars and a locomotive, the South Eastern Railway said on Telegram, noting that no casualties were reported.

Train traffic on this section is temporarily closed and work is underway to restore the railway track and contact network, it added, news agency reported.

Regional investigative authorities have opened a criminal case over the derailment on suspicion of a terrorist attack, the Russian Investigative Committee said Wednesday.

NITI Aayog releases report on future pandemic preparedness

NITI Aayog on Wednesday released a new report that provides a blueprint of a rapid response system in the event of a public health emergency or pandemic.

The report titled ‘Future Pandemic Preparedness and Emergency Response - A Framework for Action’ was prepared by an Expert Group constituted by the government think tank.

After the recent Covid-19 pandemic, which claimed over 7 million lives globally, and more than half a million lives were lost in India, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned of more such health threats.

As per the WHO, 75 per cent of future public health threats are likely to be zoonotic threats (which could be due to emerging, re-emerging and new pathogens).

Australia’s veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon has identified Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant as India’s big three batters ahead of this year’s Border Gavaskar Trophy series, starting from November 22 in Perth.

The 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will further see India and Australia squaring off in Adelaide (pink-ball game), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney respectively till January 7, 2025. It will also be the first five-match Test series between India and Australia since 1991/92.

A six-member Central team, which arrived in Telangana on Wednesday to visit flood-affected districts, was briefed by the state government on the extensive damage caused in many parts of the state.

The team, led by Col Keerti Pratap Singh, Joint Secretary, Operation and Communications, in the Union Home Ministry, met Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari at the Secretariat.

She briefed the visiting central team about the extensive damage caused in most parts of the state due to the unprecedented rainfall that occurred between August 31 and September 3. The Chief Secretary informed that even though the weather alert was received at very short notice, the administration was on high alert, and swift action was taken by the state government which minimised the loss of human life.

Humane gesture: Gadchiroli police airlift rare blood group in chopper to revive new mom

In a humanitarian operation, the Gadchiroli Police in Maharashtra airlifted a rare blood group type to help revive a woman who had delivered a baby two days ago in Bhamragad, a top official said here on Wednesday.

The woman, identified as Mantoshi Gajendra Chaudhary (24), hails from Arewada village in Bhamragad taluka in the tribal-dominated and Maoist-infested district, large parts of which are currently in the grip of incessant rain and floods.

According to Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Neelotpal, the Bhamragad region has been virtually cut-off due to the heavy rain, making transportation and communication difficult.

Late on September 8, when Mantoshi went into labour, the local health officials waded through waist-deep water with help from the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and somehow took her to the Bhamragad Rural Hospital where she safely deliver a baby on Monday.

Manipur's capital, its adjoining localities and the three curfew-bound districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal wore a deserted look on Wednesday while the security forces were on a high alert to foil any attack or ethnic clashes in the state, officials said.

Apprehending fresh trouble in Imphal, and its adjoining areas, authorities on Tuesday reimposed curfew for an indefinite period in the three districts. Mobile internet services were also suspended in five districts and educational institutions closed till September 12 in view of the students’ protests.

Officials said that no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the trouble-torn state on Wednesday.

According to officials, the Civil Secretariat and a few other government offices in Imphal were functioning but the presence of employees was very thin.

Rashmika shares 'flowery' update as she starts shooting for Salman Khan-starrer ‘Sikandar’

Actress Rashmika Mandanna, who has a slew of films lined up for release, has started shooting for her part in the upcoming movie ‘Sikandar’. The actress will be seen opposite Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in the film.

On Wednesday, the actress took to the Stories section of her Instagram, and shared a short video from the day 1 of shoot from the sets of ‘Sikandar’. In the video, one can see the flower bouquet. Excitedly, the actress wrote in the video, “Flowers” and she made a Korean heart with her fingers.

‘Sikandar’ marks the 1st collaboration between Salman and Rashmika, and is directed by AR Murugadoss, who is known for films like ‘Ghajini’ and 'Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty'.

The film is being produced by Sajid Nadiadwala of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. It marks the reunion of Salman with Sajid after 'Kick' which was released in 2014. The makers of the film have booked its release for Eid 2025, the festival which is reserved for releases of Salman Khan.
