With the counting of votes for the 10 Lok Sabha seats and one assembly by-poll in Haryana underway on Tuesday, initial polling trends indicated Congress is leading on five seats, BJP is leading on four seats and the AAP on one seat. The Congress is leading on five seats. They are three-time MP Deepender Hooda with 50,435 votes is leading by 32,252 votes from Jat-dominated Rohtak; four-time MP Kumari Selja with 88,911 votes is leading by 36,518 votes from Sirsa (reserved); greenhorn Varun Chaudhry with 79,230 votes leading by 22,907 votes from Ambala (reserved), Satpal Brahamchari with 46,092 votes is leading by 3,216 votes from Sonipat; and Raj Babbar with 69,351 votes, leading by 25,898 votes, from Gurugram.

Haryana recorded 31 percent voting till 1 pm on Saturday as voting got underway for 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Despite the scorching heat in the first four hours, 22.09 percent voting took place. The number of women was more than men at most of the polling stations.

Haryana on Saturday registered an approximate turnout of 8.31 per cent in the first two hours of polling. As per the Election Office, the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh seat saw the state’s highest turnout of 10.26 per cent, whereas Faridabad recorded the lowest turnout at 5.46 per cent, followed by 6.20 per cent in Gurugram and 6.92 per cent in Ambala. A total of 2,00,76,786 voters, comprising 94 lakh women, will decide the fate of 223 candidates, after weeks of heated campaign barbs.

Gurugram district administration has recovered 20,104 litres of illicit liquor worth Rs 61.16 lakh while 381 FIRs have also been registered after the Model Code of Conduct was implemented. Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioners (Excise) Amit Bhatia said that till May 16, police recovered 17,174 litres of illicit liquor worth Rs 53. 43 lakh and also filed 370 FIRs while 2,930 litres of illicit liquor was seized by the enforcement team during the same period.

The news came out that 11 people died in a terrible accident in Palwal last night. In this, 7 persons are said to be related to Hoshiarpur district. However, the cause of the accident is yet to be known and the injured have been admitted to Palwal Medical College for treatment.

Three youths were critically injured when the car they were travelling in fell off the Jharsa flyover on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. The three are aged between 18 to 23 and the incident happened late on Monday night, said officials. The injured -- Rishab and Naman are reportedly residents of Gurugram while the third was yet to be identified. The victims were admitted to a private hospital.

A young couple in a live-in relationship in Haryana's Bahadurgarh allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of their apartment on Saturday, police said.

Both were YouTubers, and as per police, there was a clash between the two after which they took this extreme step.

Five children were killed and several others injured after an overloaded bus of a private school went out of control and overturned in Haryana's Mahendragarh district on Thursday. A total of 35 to 40 children were onboard the bus at the time of the accident. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals, police said.

In a major setback to the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) in Haryana its state president Nishan Singh on Monday quit the party. He’s likely to join the Congress. Speculations are rife that many JJP MLAs would jump ship along with him. After the formation of the JJP in 2018, Nishan Singh was given the responsibility of the state president.
