Youth Issues Won’t End with Drug Eradication Alone; Employment through Industries and Businesses Is Crucial - Pannu

Chandigarh, March 20

Aam Aadmi Party leader Baltej Pannu said that Punjab is currently fighting a decisive battle against drugs. This battle is not possible without your support. The war against drugs will not end merely by apprehending a few individuals or taking action against drug smugglers. More steps need to be taken for this.

The AAP leader stated that the actions being taken by the police are indeed instilling confidence among the people. Over the past month, we have seen how the police have acted courageously and wisely against drug smugglers in various areas. However, the problem will not be solved just by catching those who sell drugs.

He added that those who have become addicted to drugs need to be brought out of this quagmire. It is a matter of demand and supply, and the most crucial step to eradicate drugs is to provide employment. When we take away the syringe of drugs from the hands of the youth and give them work and a tiffin, they will quickly leave their addiction behind.

He further said that the government is making every possible effort in this direction. More than 50,000 jobs have been provided without recommendation or bribery. However, the role of the private sector cannot be ignored in this era. Over the past few years, there has been a significant decline in industrialization and trade in Punjab. In 2003, Punjab contributed the most to India’s GDP, but today it ranks 19th.

He stated that the problem of drugs and unemployment are interconnected. Unemployment is the biggest reason for drug addiction. The closure of highways and roads has severely impacted industries and trade. Therefore, I appeal to the farmers to take their fight against the central government to Delhi because closing roads in Punjab will have no impact on the central government. Instead, it will further worsen the economic situation here.

He added that the Punjab government and the people of Punjab stand firmly with the farmers and will continue to do so in the future. However, this fight cannot be won by blocking roads. This is causing distress to common people and traders and is resulting in massive economic losses for Punjab.
