Workshop on "Innovation in Social Research: Emerging Trends and Techniques" at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

The Department of Sociology at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, has organized a One-Week workshop on "Innovation in Social Research: Emerging Trends and Techniques." Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University, inaugurated the workshop and appreciated the efforts of the Department. Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, was the special guest. In his address, Dr. Billing highlighted the pivotal role of research and innovation in academic growth and extended a warm welcome to all the participants and distinguished guests. First day of the workshop was conducted by Prof Harvinder Singh Bhatti, Professor of Sociology. He highlighted the significance of innovative approaches in contemporary social research. He delivered his lecture on “Avoiding Pitfalls: Common Mistakes in Social Research and How to Overcome Them,” offering participants practical strategies to enhance the quality of their research work. Prof. Jasvir Kaur Chahal led the second day's session, focusing on “Reflections on Social Science Research: Dimensions and Directions,” which encouraged participants to explore new perspectives in social research methodologies. On the third day, Dr. Satinder Kumar from the School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala, conducted a hands-on training session on “Introduction to Data Analysis Tools: A Beginner’s Guide to Data Analysis,” equipping attendees with essential skills for effective data management.
The fourth day featured Dr. Reena Rani Chaudhary from the Department of Sociology, CDOE, Panjab University, Chandigarh. She delivered a session on “Designing Effective Questionnaires in Social Research,” providing valuable insights into survey design and data collection techniques. On the final day, Prof. Jamshid Ali Khan conducted a comprehensive session on “The Art of Writing Conclusions for Theses and Drawing Policy/Societal Implications,” followed by presentations and discussions on research findings. The workshop concluded with the Valedictory Address and the distribution of certificates to all the participants. The event was coordinated by Dr. Nav Shagan Deep Kaur, the Head of the Department of Sociology, who expressed her satisfaction at the outcomes of the workshop. Faculty members from the Department of Sociology, including Paramdeep Singh, Dr. Harmanpreet Kaur, Ekroop Kaur and Yashna Syal also conducted the sessions on different days of the workshop.
