Mahindra Auto logs 16 pc sales growth in September, exports up 25 pc

Automaker Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday said its overall auto sales for September stood at 87,839 vehicles, including exports, which is a 16 per cent growth (year-on-year).

In the utility vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 51,062 vehicles in the domestic market, a growth of 24 per cent. The domestic sales for commercial vehicles stood at 23,706, according to a company statement.

In the month of September, the automaker exported 3,027 vehicles, a 25 per cent YoY growth from 2,419 vehicles last year . For year-to-date, the company exported 14,727 vehicles, a 3 per cent growth for the same period last year.

Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd said they sold 51,062 SUVs in September, a growth of 24 per cent and 87,839 total vehicles, a growth of 16 per cent.

“This month, we launched the all-new VEERO in the LCV<3.5 tonne segment, based on India’s first multi-energy modular CV platform,” he said.

Indian equity indices opened in the green on Tuesday following positive cues from Asian peers and US markets.

At 9:39 a.m., Sensex was at 84,461, up 161 points or 0.19 per cent and Nifty was at 25,858, up 47 points or 0.18 per cent.

The market trend remained positive. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), 1560 shares were in the green and 733 shares in the red.

In the Sensex pack, Tech Mahindra, L&T, SBI, M&M, Bajaj Finserv, Power Grid, Wipro, Kotak Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank and Tata Motors were the top gainers. Asian Paints, JSW Steel, HUL, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, ITC, Sun Pharma and IndusInd Bank were the top losers.

Manufacturing industries clock 7.4 pc job growth in India, highest in over a decade

The total estimated employment in manufacturing industries showed a robust growth of 7.4 per cent in the fiscal 2022-23 over the previous year, according to the latest government data.

The employment rose to 1.84 crore in 2022-23 from 1.72 crore in 2021-22 — highest-ever increase in the sector in more than a decade, as per data by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

The top five states employing highest number of persons in this sector were Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka. Taken together, these states contributed about 55 per cent of total manufacturing employment in the year 2022-23.

Three people, including a woman, were arrested on Monday in connection with the gruesome incident of a 55-year-old woman in Tripura's West Tripura district being tied to a tree and being burnt alive, police said.

A police official said that the woman's sons Ranabir Debnath and Biplab Debnath and the former’s wife were arrested and would be produced before a local court to seek their police custody for interrogation.

The official, quoting the local people, said that the victim, identified as Minati Debnath, was tied to a tree and allegedly burnt alive by her sons and a daughter-in-law at Champaknagar in West Tripura district late on Saturday night.

Huge stores of weapons, ammunition and explosives recovered in Manipur

The Indian Army’s Eastern Command on Monday claimed major recoveries of weapons and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Manipur since September 25.

“23 weapons and several IEDs packed with 52.5 kgs of explosives have been recovered from various parts of the state. The operations were carried out by the Army and Assam Rifles, in close coordination with Manipur Police and other security forces operating in Manipur,” the army in a statement said.

The army said that during intelligence-based operations conducted on September 25, the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a 7.62 mm Self Loading Rifle (SLR), two 9 mm carbines, a 9 mm pistol, a 0.32 mm pistol, grenades, ammunition and other warlike stores from the general area of Tekcham, Manning and Phainom Village Pine Forest Plantation in the Thoubal district.

North Korea removed as observer from Asia-Pacific anti-money laundering group

North Korea has been removed as an observer of a regional anti-money laundering group due to its lack of engagement and failure to fulfill obligations, South Korea's foreign ministry said Monday.

The unanimous decision was made at the 26th general assembly of the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG), held in the United Arab Emirates last Tuesday, the ministry said in a press release, news agency reported.

The APG, formed in 1997, is an intergovernmental body committed to effectively implementing international standards against money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Currently, the APG consists of 42 member states, including the U.S., Japan and China. South Korea joined the group in 1998.

India issues helpline numbers for citizens stranded in Nepal floods

India on Monday issued helpline numbers for its citizens stranded in Nepal due to floods and landslides during the past few days.

The advisory follows severe flooding and landslides triggered by record rainfall over the weekend, which caused widespread damage across Nepal.

In a post on social media platform X, the Indian Embassy in Nepal expressed concern at the current situation, stating, "There has been widespread damage due to floods and landslides on account of record rainfall over the weekend. Our thoughts are with everyone affected."

The Embassy acknowledged that it has received reports of Indian citizens being stranded due to the natural disaster and is coordinating with Nepali authorities to ensure the safe evacuation and return of these individuals.

399 arrested, liquor worth Rs 95.43 lakh seized after MCC imposed in Gurugram

All of 399 people were arrested and Rs 95.43 lakh worth of liquor was seized from across Gurugram district after the imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the upcoming Assembly polls in Haryana, police said on Monday.

The MCC is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission, for political parties, candidates, government and the party in power during elections concerning speeches, announcements, election manifestos and general conduct.

Assembly elections in Haryana will be held on October 5 in a single phase with the counting of votes on October 8, the results will also be announced on the same day.
