To mark the Occasion of National Dentist Day, Desh Bhagat Dental College & Hospital organized a expert talk. The Lecture was delivered by Dr. SP Singh Professor and Chairman, unit of Orthodontics Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh. In his lecture, he explained various advancements in dentistry also share the knowledge related to Orthodontics. The another lecture was delivered by Dr. Simranjit Singh, MDS CRAC Pathology (Gold Medalist) Ex Faculty Dr. HSJIS, PU, Chandigarh. In his talk he guided the BDS students regarding the future plans after their graduation in India and other countries also.During the expert talk Chancellor Dr Zora Singh and Dr.Tajinder Kaur Pro-Chancellor interacted the audience by their wise words. Principal Dr. Vikram Bali and Vice-Principal Dr. Tejvir Singh formally welcomed guest speakers with gratitude. A vote of thanks was given by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Proferssor, Dept. of Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopeadics and concluded the function with National Anthem. Meanwhile Department of Public Health Dentistry Organized Screening and treatment camp to mark the National Dentist Day at Gurudwara Rohisar Sahib, Malowal. On that day free medicines and toothpastes were distributed among 40 patients. Staff and students encouraged the patients to assure the oral hygiene as their responsibility. The health education regarding the dietary and oral hygiene practices was provided.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Senior leader and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlighted the success of the Punjab Government's anti-drug campaign 'War Against Drugs' (Yudh Nashian Virudh) and shared details of police actions conducted over the last 13 days with the media.

Addressing a press conference related to this campaign at Punjab Bhavan on Thursday, Harpal Cheema stated that the results of the 'War Against Drugs' campaign are highly encouraging and its positive impact can be seen everywhere.

He said this campaign is running very successfully across Punjab. So far, over 81 kg of heroin, more than 51 kg of opium, and more than ₹60 lakh in cash have been recovered. Meanwhile, 1259 FIRs have been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), and 1759 drug traffickers have been arrested

NSS UNIT OF SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB WORLD UNIVERSITY ORGANISED A ONE DAY SEMINAR ON ROAD SAFETY

A seminar to enhance road safety awareness was organized by the NSS wing of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib under the theme “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow; Road Safety First.” The event aimed to educate students on the importance of following traffic rules and ensuring road safety for all. The seminar was attended by 100 NSS volunteers, reflecting their commitment to responsible citizenship and public welfare.
Navjot Kaur, Assistant Professor of education welcomed the guests and highlighted the relevance of road safety awareness, especially among students who are future drivers and responsible citizens.Inspector Davinder Singh, Traffic Incharge, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, was the esteemed resource person for the seminar. In his address, he emphasized the significance of adhering to traffic regulations, the consequences of negligent driving, and the role of youth in promoting road safety. He provided valuable insights into accident prevention measures, pedestrian safety, and the impact of rash driving. Dr. Harneet Billing, NSS Programme Coordinator, shared her views on the importance of discipline and awareness in reducing road accidents. She encouraged students to take proactive steps in spreading awareness about traffic rules within their communities.The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Suman Preet Kaur, NSS Programme Officer, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, dignitaries, and volunteers for making the seminar a success.

Led by CM, Cabinet approves summoning of Budget session from March 21

Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday approved summoning of the eight session (Budget Session) of the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha from March 21 to 28.

A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann here at his official residence.

Giving the details a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that the Cabinet gave nod for recommending the same to Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, who is authorized to officially summon the State Legislature as per Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India. The Governor address will take place on March 21 followed by discussion on the address. The Finance Minister will present the budget for the year 2025-26 on March 26 general discussion on Budget will take place thereafter.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab said that anti-drug campaign, initiated under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Mann and supported by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, has been receiving widespread appreciation for its focused and result-oriented approach.

Addressing a press conference at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab headquarters, AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, accompanied by AAP leaders Neel Garg and Gulshan Chhabra, provided a detailed update on the Punjab Government’s ongoing efforts to combat drug menace in the state. 

Aman Arora said that this initiative is not merely a government endeavor but a collective mission involving every citizen of Punjab. "The drug menace had impacted almost every household in Punjab, causing immense pain and suffering. Today, the government is taking significant steps to eradicate this cancer from the state," said Arora.

Today, with the efforts of Vinay Gupta, Project Chairman (Eye Donation) of Vishva Jagriti Mission, the eyes of Sardar Harbans Singh Cheema (aged 86 years), son of Late Ravel Singh Cheema, resident of Khanpur, Fatehgarh Sahib, were donated after his passing. Mission's active member Dr. Hitender Suri stated that the eye donation procedure was conducted by a team of doctors from PGI Chandigarh, including Dr. Mukesh and Dr. Amritpal Singh. The mission extends its gratitude to the eye donor's family members, including his sons Parmjit Singh Cheema, Balwinder Singh, Mohan Singh, Rachhpal Singh, Hardeep Singh, Amarinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Ved Prakash, Sarpanch Baljinder Singh, Manjeet Sharma, as well as the entire Cheema family and the village panchayat of Khanpur. Dr. Suri appealed to all residents of the city to actively participate in the noble cause of eye donation so that after their demise, their eyes can bring light into the lives of two other individuals. On this occasion, members of Vishva Jagriti Mission, including Vinay Gupta, Dr. Moti Kaplish, Baljinder Sharma, and Vinay Sood, were present.

The event was inaugurated with a flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by a march past by the students.The chief guest, Advocate Amardeep Singh Dharni, Member Trust, and special guest, Dr. Pritpal Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, encouraged the students to participate in sports activities. The students showcased their athletic skills in various events, including sprints, long-distance runs, shot put, discus throw, and tug-of-war. Agamroop Kaur Sidhu won the title of 'Best Athlete (Girls)', while Aakash Kumar bagged the title of 'Best Athlete (Boys)'. The Computer Science Engineering Department won the 'Best Sports Trophy', followed by the Master of Business Administration Department. Principal Dr. Lakhwinder Singh expressed his gratitude to Dr. Harpreet Kaur Mavi (Director of Physical Education), Gurmeet Singh Tohra, Rajinderdeep Kaur, and all the faculty members and students who contributed to the success of the event. The winners were awarded prizes, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks. Amritpal granted 54-day leave from Lok Sabha, Centre informs HC

The Centre on Wednesday informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib, Amritpal Singh, has been granted a “leave of absence for 54 days” for attending the ongoing session of the Lok Sabha.

Singh, who is currently detained in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA), had approached the court seeking permission to attend parliamentary proceedings, fearing that prolonged absence beyond 60 days could lead to his constituency being declared vacant.

During the hearing, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel noted that Singh’s concern had been addressed by a letter dated March 11 from the Lok Sabha Secretariat, granting him the leave of absence. “Since the petitioner’s apprehension regarding disqualification from Parliament due to absence stands alleviated, the relief sought is effectively satisfied,” the bench observed.

He said that President is welcome to Punjab- the sacred land of great Gurus, saints, seers and prophets. Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed hope that during her visit, the President of India will have a feel of the glorious cultural heritage of the state besides enjoying the warm hospitality of the Punjabis.

ENSURE SPEEDY AND TIMELY COMPLETION OF MEDICAL COLLEGE AND CIVIL HOSPITAL AT HOSHIARPUR: CM TO OFFICERS

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday asked the officers to ensure speedy and timely completion of the construction of Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences and Civil Hospital at Hoshiarpur.

Chairing a meeting to review the progress of the proposed Institute and civil hospital here at his official residence, the Chief Minister said that the institute is aimed at ensuring quality healthcare services to the people. He said that the institute will come up over an area of 21.41 acres at a cost of Rs 418.30 Crore and will have a hospital with 300 Unit Beds and Medical College for 150 Annual student intake. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the ultra modern hospital will have two basements, Ground plus eight floors and service floor at the existing Medical Hospital Campus Hoshiarpur.
