Punjab Police bust trans-border arms smuggling module; six arrested

Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted a trans-border arms smuggling module backed by foreign-based smugglers with the arrest of six people, said Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Friday.

Those arrested have been identified as Vinod Kumar, Yuvraj Singh, Surkhap Singh, Jugraj Singh, Amritpal Singh and Prabhdeep Singh.

Ten pistols, including three sophisticated 9MM Glock pistols, along with 10 cartridges were recovered from from their possession, the police said.

DGP Yadav said the preliminary investigation revealed that the accused have been in contact with a foreign-based smuggler, who has been pushing huge consignments of weapons into Indian territory via drones and other means.

Solid waste management work completed in 252 villages: Dr. Sona Thind

A meeting of the District Water Sanitation Mission, Fatehgarh Sahib, was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sona Thind at the District Administrative Complex, during which the Deputy Commissioner disclosed that the work of solid and liquid waste management in 54 villages of the district has been completed, and now these villages have come under the category of model villages. Apart from this, work related to solid waste management has been completed in 252 villages, and work is in progress in the remaining villages.

Two members of Landa gang arrested from Jalandhar

Punjab Police have arrested two members of the Landa gang after an intense shootout in Jalandhar on Friday.

Nearly 50 shots were fired from both sides, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Friday.

Two police officials and gangsters were injured in the shootout. They gangsters were involved in multiple heinous crimes, including extortion, in many districts of Punjab, he said.

Seven weapons and multiple cartridges were recovered.

Earlier, the police had dismantled two criminal gangs, including a UK-based extortion syndicate, and arrested 10 hardcore criminals after recovering seven pistols along with 18 cartridges and 10 magazines from their possession.
