Second Day of the Shukrana Yatra: AAP Punjab Working President Sherry Kalsi Leads the Yatra from Amritsar to Batala

On the second day of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab's Shukrana Yatra, the party’s newly appointed Working President, AmanSher Singh Sherry Kalsi, led the yatra from Amritsar to Batala and congratulated the party workers for their victory in the by-elections.

The yatra saw the participation of senior party leaders and Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, several MLAs, and party officials. Thousands of party supporters and workers also joined, adding to the grandeur of the procession. At every crossroad, workers welcomed the new Working President of the party with flower showers and slogans of “Zindabad.”

During the journey, while addressing the media at various locations, Sherry Kalsi said that the workers are the backbone of the party. He acknowledged that thanks to the dedication and hard work of the party workers, the party has reached this position today. He stated that all workers will be respected, and together, they will take the party forward in Punjab. He also appreciated the dedication and hard work of the party workers during the by-elections.

Sherry Kalsi expressed his gratitude to the people of Punjab for maintaining their trust in AAP and stated that the AAP government is working tirelessly to make Punjab a prosperous and flourishing state by continuously taking people-centric decisions. He mentioned that the results of the by-elections showed that the people of Punjab are completely satisfied with the work of the AAP government.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Member of Parliament, Malvinder Singh Kang, today moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha, bringing to the forefront an urgent and sensitive issue concerning the people of Punjab. The motion seeks the Government of India’s intervention to expedite the presidential assent for the Punjab State's Indian Penal Code (Punjab Amendment) Bill 2018 and the Code of Criminal Procedure (Punjab Amendment) Bill 2018. These bills propose stricter punishments, including life imprisonment, for acts of sacrilege against any religious text.

Briefing the media, Malvinder Singh Kang stated, "The sanctity of all religious texts, whether it is Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Bhagavad Gita, the Quran, or the Bible, must be upheld. The Punjab Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed these bills in 2018, but they remain pending for presidential assent even after six years.

Ministry Cites Deregulation of Aviation Sector
Responding to the concerns, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, stated that the Indian domestic aviation sector has been deregulated since 1994. This deregulation allows airlines the freedom to select their routes and markets based on commercial considerations and compliance with government-issued guidelines, such as Route Dispersal Guidelines (RDGs) and airport slot allocations.

Punjab Police arrest two operatives of Bambiha gang

In another major breakthrough, the Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in a joint operation with Mohali police, apprehended two operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang and recovered two .32 calibre pistols along with seven cartridges from their possession, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Harinder Singh, a resident of Mehmadpur village in Mohali district, and Gurjinder Singh, a resident of Varana village also in Mohali district.

DGP Yadav said the arrested accused were handled by US-based Kulveer Singh, alias Lala Benipal, an aide of absconding foreign-based gangster Lucky Patial.

Lala Benipal had earlier orchestrated two separate attacks in Mohali, including one on a financer in September 2023 and another on a rival gang member in December 2023, he added.

Punjab Police put another top drug smuggler under preventive detention

The Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) has executed orders of preventive detention of another top drug smuggler, Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Ludhiana district, using special provisions under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.

This is the second such case of preventive detention in which orders have been issued by the competent authority under Section 3 of the PIT-NDPS Act, which empowers the government to take such drug smugglers into preventive custody to prevent them from engaging in illicit traffic of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Notably, a month back, Punjab Police had executed the orders of preventive detention of a notorious drug smuggler, Avtar Singh, alias Tari, of Gurdaspur district for two years using special provisions under the PIT-NDPS Act.

DGP Yadav said during the investigation, it was found that Gurdeep Singh had links with international smugglers, Harminder Singh, Rajan Sharma, Tanvir Bedi, and Baljit Singh.

In celebration of the appointment of a new president and working president of the party, as well as the significant victories in three seats in the by-elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will take out a Shukrana Yatra from Patiala to Amritsar on November 26.

AAP leader and Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh shared this information with the media during a press conference at the party office in Chandigarh. He informed that the Yatra will begin from the famous Kali Mata Temple in Patiala and will pass through Sri Darbar Sahib, Durgiana Temple in Amritsar, and end at Shri Ram Teerth Temple. AAP Punjab General Secretary Harchand Singh Barsat, party spokesperson Bikram Jeet Passi, and AAP leader and chairman Amandeep Singh Mohi were also present at the press conference.
